Hello OH family:  Hope all is well with everyone! - I am almost 6 weeks out and I am experiencing LOW ENERGY.   I feel good, taking my vities, "trying" to get in all my protein, and exercising.  After a walk I pretty much have to drag myself up the stairs.  I seem to do better on level ground.  Sounds kind of crazy but hills and stairs kick my you know what.  Any thoughts/feedback?

Are you getting in your protein (or at least coming close)?  I wonder if you are anemic?  You might want to mention this to your surgeon -- if you have no appointment coming up anytime soon, give them a call because they might want to do blood work.

But, I also think this is fairly common 6 weeks out. You are still recovering from major surgery. We get fooled because the pain is gone or nearly so and the incisions are well healed at this point, but you are definitely still in big time recovery. I wonder if you have added lots of additional activities at home or work over the last couple weeks that are adding to the energy drain!?!?!

Feel better soon!!

Good food for thought (no pun intended) - I am anemic and I do take iron.  Perhaps blood work is in order to make sure everything is in balance. - I'm sure you are right about only being 6 weeks out... I guess I just need to be patient with myself.  I have a doctors appt. tomorrow so I certainly will mention it.

Thank you so much I do appreaciate your input!

Hi Cathy,

You are not recovered yet.  It has only been 6 weeks.  It takes months to recover from GBS.  For me, I had the same exhaustion feeling at 4-6 weeks.  It showed on my face (people were telling me I looked tired.)  So, I napped every day when I needed it.  I listened to my body.  I wanted to feel good (and I thought I did) but then realized that I was not completely healed inside.  Take your time and heal correctly.  You'll know when you are healed.  I did.  I felt energy that I haven't felt in years.  It was about 3-4 months post-op.  I'm sure it's different for everyone.

Take care,

Lisa

When I go for my walks on the weekend, 3-4 miles, when I get home I end up crashed on the couch for at least 1.5 hrs. We're still healing. Plus, if you weren't exercising before your body has to get use to a new regiment. If you're tired, rest. And, you're doing great!

I too am anemic, now.

So I've added a protein drink, more red meat, and flaxseed to almost everything. It helped alot.

I also switched to the chewable Centrum twice a day.

Good luck!
