Anyone felt like having their band out?
HAs anyone felt like having their band out and going to the RNY instead? I was banded last October and have been struggling with my weight. I have fallen back into old ways of life again. I have a lot of discomfort when I eat not b/c i am not chewing good enough or eating too fast. I just feel like i want this out.
And I have been working with a therapist who deals with "eating issues". I am hoping this will help with the bad choices.

I had my band out last year in June at my surgeon's suggestion. Two years of very little weight loss, constant sliming and PB'ing were enough for me. I was in denial about all my issues and never said anything to my surgeon until January of last year.
I am thrilled that I had the revision although it was a rough surgery due to adhesions and an umbilical hernia that needed to be repaired.
But best of all I am down over 100 lbs. and I can "eat" like a normal person. It's also nice to be able to shop in the misses section in stores. You would never know I had WLS by what I am able to eat...meat, veggies, salad, etc.
I had trouble eating no matter how much I chewed....I even had to go to my local hospital three times to have meat removed from my esophagus.
Good Luck with whatever you decide!

I would never have my band removed for RNY. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with the RNY, but I am determined to have the band work for me, and to change old habits. I have known a few people who had the RNY who did not change their habits, and when the dumping stopped, they gained weight back. This does not mean it would happen to you. You may find the same issues you are having with the RNY, because you are not eating correctly. You still have to follow those rules with RNY. I think you are making a good choice by seeking help. I would also talk to your doctor about this. Ultimately the decision is yours. I hope you find peace with whatever decision you make. Good luck.
I had RNY partially because I know a couple people with the band who had the same sort of issues as you -- pain and problems but inadequate weight loss. I wanted more of a "sure thing" and am pleased so far. I think that band is a fantastic option for many people, but I like sweets and grazing, and that coupled with the people I knew w/band problems convinced me to go with RNY. I have not had any problems and my loss has been great so far (I am about 8 lb from a "normal" BMI).
It is a tough decision and worth lots of research. Good luck!
