My last week and a half

So I have been pretty quiet lately, both here and on facebook.  I have been going through some pretty rough times.  On July 28th, I had a procedure for my meniere's disease, trying to eliminate the vertigo attacks which have been coming more often, and worse each time.  The Dr. injected an antibiotic, gentamiacin, into my ear.  It was a really weird sensation.  The first few days I did not feel much of a difference, in fact, I even had a vertigo attack at work, which lasted several hours.  After that it was not too bad.  Saturday night I went to camp, then Sunday left for Rhode Island for my nephew's wedding.  Had a great time, stayed overnight, and on the way home Monday, started feeling pretty yucky.  Very dizzy, lightheaded, nauseous.  I went into work Monday afternoon, but could not really work.  The dizziness continued to get worse.  I woke up Tuesday morning, and felt absolutely horrible.  Hubby had to call in for me.  I laid around all day, with what I can only describe as 24/7 bedspins.  It is now Thursday, and I still have not been to work, but I am trying to work from home.  I can only put in about an hour and a half at a time.  I called the doctor, and there is basically nothing that they can do.  It is because the gentamiacin has gone into my ear as desired, and has killed the fluid sacs, but also the balance nerve.  So I have a balance control issue, and my brain needs to create a new balance center.  Sounds complicated....well it is.  They don't know how long this will take, or how bad it will be.  Hopefully I will be able to keep my job through this.  Of course, the stress of that is not helping at all.

I probably won't be on very much, but will check periodically until this is resolved.  Meanwhile, keep your fingers crossed that this resolves itself soon.  I am going crazy, can't go anywhere, walk, drive, ride or anything.  The nice thing is is that I am too nauseous to eat!!  Trying to get protein in if nothing else.  AGH.

Ohhh, I hope you feel better soon. Laying around the house w/vertigo is about the worst thing there is. I hope it passes very soon.

Hi Martha,

I'm sorry to hear about your vertigo problem. Does your work offer short term disability? If not, what about medical leave? At least if you are on medical leave, you should be able to keep your job. Take care!

Thanks everyone for your support.  This seems to be getting better, albeit very very slowly.  Hubby says I look so much better than last Tuesday.  I am able to walk better, and my eyes are not as jumpy.  I still have constant dizziness, but the loud roaring in my ear seems to have somewhat dissipated.  Still not sure if I can drive.  Hubby is taking me grocery shopping, so I will see how I can ride.  I am working from home, able to put in a few hours a day.  I have a hearing to prepare for on Wednesday, so I am concerned about that.  I really need to go to the office to get the file ready.

I probably won't make it to the meeting on Monday.  This will be the first meeting I have missed in a year, as my surgery anniversary is Saturday.  I will be there in spirit though.
