Hello Everyone!  Hope everyone is doing well.  I am doing fabulous!  I am 5 weeks out and am ready to implement all regular foods into my diet. (Slowly and individually of course).  I am nervous however a necessary evil.  Any feedback from others as to what foods agreed/disagreed with you?  I have not felt sick once thus far and I'd really like to keep it that way :)

Also, when is the next support group meeting?

Hi Cathy,

Wow, I can't believe it has been five weeks all ready.  Where does the time go!!!  I know that for me, pasta, rice, bread, and anything dry did not sit well.  But I have the lap band so it may be different for you.  Everyone though has indicated bread is bad!!!  I can have it toasted, but only in small amounts.

The next support group for Portsmouth is Monsday at 5:30.  Hope to see you there.

Hi Cathy,

I'm so glad to hear you are doing fabulous!

At 5 weeks, and trying new foods, I think you should incorporate 1 thing at a time.  Small bites, long chews.  I prob. took things too fast and ate too many new things at once (and I vomited a lot.)  BUT, I haven't vomited since Mother's Day (in May) so things are looking up for me.

When you find a food that you can't tolerate, let it be for a while and try it again a couple of weeks later.  For me, I always LOVED salmon.  I tried it several times and unfortunately it just doesn't agree with me and I will no longer eat it.  I have had haddock, scallops and shrimp with no problems.  Make sure whatever you eat is VERY moist.  I can't epress enough to chew it VERY good.  Otherwise you may get a chunk of food that just sits in your stomach.  That is not a good feeling.  If you hiccup a lot after eating, you may be eating too much, too fast or haven't chewed good enough.  I had major hiccups early out.

Best of luck.  You're doing great!

Hi Heidi (why did I think that Linda called you Kathy?)  You were sitting next to Kathy right?  She was the blond with curly, short hair...

It was a good meeting.  It seems like you and I  have similar experiences.  Thank you for the compliment.  I had my before pic ready to bring and I forgot it...grrr.

Hope to see you next month!

Wow Kathy - that is great that you are doing so well!    I had a bad week and found out I am lactose intolerant.  I am 4 wks out today.

I meet with Jackie next tues to go over my diet again.  I have tried haddock and had no problem.  I have had a hard time finding anything that I like though.  My tastes have totally changed and I am really sensitive to smells now.

How did your vacation go in Maine?

Hey Julie! - Sorry to hear about your bad week.  Surely getting to the bottom of the lactose will turn things around.  My tastes have changed as well.    I'm just now beginning to get hungry when I go more than 4 hrs without eating.  It's an exciting yet kind of scarey time...

My trip to Maine was great!  Everyone was very supportive.  My 21 yr old daughter was so thoughtful.  Everywhere we went she was looking out for me.  I love her so much!! -  I have tolerated everything I have tried thus far. (thank gawd 'cause I HATE throwing up!) - I am a little nervous about meat and salad but I am going to hold off and save them for later down the road.

Nice hearing from you and how you are doing.

I stuck with food they told me would be fine -- avoided bread, rice, etc. Tiny bites and chewed well and have never (knock wood) been sick. As time has progressed, I have gradually added food, always starting with a small amount and working my way up to a serving (WLS serving). I hardly ever eat beef, becasue it does not appeal to me, but I eat lots of poultry, veggie burgers, chicken, fish, beans and just about any veggie or fruit with no problems.  I love the Arnolds or Pepperidge farm deli flats (thin circular bread) . I eat 1/2 for 50 cal and 2 - 3 g protein and that is the only bread I eat regularly. I stay away from citrus fruit with membranes and apple peels because I know lots of people that have been bothered by those.

Good luck!
