2 weeks out.
Today is the day that I am suppose to stop crushing my vities. Call me crazy but I am scared. I took a whole fish oil and it went down but I felt it all the way (weird).... I am one that REALLY hates to throw up so I will do everything I can to prevent it. Also, can anyone direct me to a good vitamin website? I use to take a handful of vitamins but now am thinking that taking one might get me over this hump.
Next week I am suppose to enter the stage III diet and I am going to Maine for 3 days and my family likes to eat out. I've been thinking long and hard about what I will eat. The part that worries me is that I'd like to try new foods at home before going out (fish, cottage cheese, mashed potato). Maybe I should stick to the stage II until I return. Anyone have ideas?
I am down 30lbs in two weeks!! I love my RNY just want to be very cautious.

Hi Cathy,
First let me congratulate you on your loss. That is terrific. I tried all kinds of vitamins, and have stuck with the children's chewables. I am lapband though, so I do not have the issues that RNY people do. I have also tried to find small vitamins and such. My trainer works at Herbal Path in Dover. They have quite a few small tab vitamins and such. They have a small fish oil that I absolutely love. I also found a 2000 mg Vitamin D gel cap which is tiny. I got that at rite aid. I am with you on the throwing up thing...I will also do everything I can to avoid that.
As far as your diet goes, do what you think is comfortable. Is there anyway your family would accommodate your eating needs at this point? That way you could bring your own, and try things. For the most part you have to do what you feel is best. Don't let anyone have you do anything different. I had an adjustment on July 2, and was on liquids and mushies for the weekend. My family was awesome about that. (do frozen margueritas count as a mushie???)

I recently switched from Centrum chewable to regular centrum, but I am just now 6 months out, and was told to keep using chewables until much later. My doc says anything smaller than an m & m should go through fine, and I have had no problems swallowing vitamins and calcium supplements.
There are lots of places to get vitamins, and everyone has their opinion. I looked at the Herbal path and other "natural" places, but they are crazy expensive. ABMBS has guidelines for post-op patients as to what to take, and the minimum daily seems to be 2 ADULT multivitamins with minerals (carefully read the values if you take children's chewable) plus 1500 mg - 2000 mg calcium CITRATE, plus (I do not remember the value) vitamin D, but it usually is included in the calcium citrate.
As far as trying things at home first, I agree. There will be things at restaurants that you can have though -- If in doubt, I order a grilled chicken salad and pick the pieces of grilled chicken off (or cheese and boiled egg off a chef's salad). If you are still on stage II, you can order plain mashed potato, or a baked potato and ma**** yourself. Have fun on your vacation!!

Hi Cathy! You sound so excited. I'm so glad to hear you're doing well!
Early on (and still now, actually...although they're almost gone) I used the Bariatric Advantage chewable vitamins. I bought the berry flavored and orange flavored and take 1 in the morning and 1 at night. I bought them at Nashua Nutrition. I signed up for their diet club and I get 10% off. If you spend $99 (which isn't hard) you get free shipping. OR, if you want to go to their store, it's off exit 8 on Route 3. If you take iron, the Bariatric Advantage passion fruit chewables are REALLY good! BUT, expensive. I switched to Vitron-C and they are not chewable, but they're working out for me.
It's iffy for you and "real" foods next week because you'll only be 3 weeks out. I know I wasn't even hungry and didn't care what others ate at that stage. You can always order soup. Don't worry how others will feel if you don't eat. It's better to know how you feel and if you want to eat than eating just because everyone else is and then feeling sick. Good luck on vacation and HAVE FUN!
Lisa
PS-Just so you know. This is what I take on a daily basis for vitamins:
Morning:chewable multi-vitamin, iron, vitamin d and fish oil gel tab. I take B-12 on M-W-F.
afternoon-at least 2 hours after the morning vitamins----2 Calcium citrate tablets
afternoon-again, at least 2 hours after the calcium citrate tabs, I take 2 more. That gives me over 1200mg of calcium citrate for the day.
night-multi-vitamin and fish oil tab.

WOW Cathy! It sounds like you are doing great!!!!!! i have been taking Celebrate chewable vitamins and calcium citrate. If you go to Nashua nutrition, they let you try them right there before you buy. I made one trip down just to see the place and buy a bunch of samples.
I am one week out today and down 10lbs. I have been dealing with a dry cough for the last couple days ...... man that hurts.
Have a great vacation
