Last Minute Panic!
Don't completely panic, the last surgery I had I couldn't remove my ring either, I had to sign a paper and they taped it to my finger. So don't have it cut off, just ask to have it taped on and tell them it can not come off. They are worried about you reporting it stolen while you are in the hospital. Hope this helps.

I agree, I have NEVER removed my wedding band for surgery (22 times, but only 1 WLS) except surgery on my left hand. They should tape it for you. Do not overdo the trying to get it off or you will make your finger swell. Wait until morning when your finger is likely to be less swollen, then try gently removing it with soap or other lubricant. If that does not work, you have three options.
1) leave it on when you go to the hospital and tell them to tape it. They probably will be fine with it as suggested before. If necessary involve your surgeon. Worse case scenario, you can back down and let them cut it.
2) go to your favorite jewelry store and get them to help you remove it or cut it if possible (you may want to call them first)
3) go to the hospital Mon and let them cut it off (I bet they do not even have a ring cutter in the OR. It is usually done in the ER). It can be repaired by a jeweler, and as you lose weight it is very likely to need to be resized. If you do this, you will be calling their bluff and I bet they decide they really do not need to cut it.
DO NOT keep fussing with it if you cannot get it off, because if you show up with your finger all swollen then they will absolutely need it removed.
Best wishes with the ring and the surgery. Let us know about both!

I'm a nurse, and when prepping a patient for the OR (though i work in an ER, not in the OR) we try to get everything off, but if we can't...we tape it up. Hopefully your hospital will have the same policy.
Are you swollen or has the ring just been on a while, and your finger is truly just bigger. If your swollen...try first thing in the AM...but if your finger has just gotten bigger...there isn't much you can do for that :( Good luck...but don't worry, i really think they will be OK with just taping it.
On another note...if they have to cut it...it won't be the end of the world because before you know it, you will be needing it sized down anyway :)
