My Gf wants an update
I had my sugery on June 1st. I feel like a whole new person already. I have dropped more than 30 pounds since 5 weeks ago, thats with the preop diet included. I must have lost alot of inches too. I feel great. i have no problems with my moist and mushy foods, with the exception of eggs. My new stomach does not like them. I have had not one single hunger pain at all. I might want to eat something I like but I'm not hungry. That is so amazing to me. I think I might not be getting enough food in for the day though. I do my three meals a day. I have my protein drink in am at noon its my cream soup and supper i will have chili and i have applesauce in between meals, or pudding. I do enjoy my popsicles. I'm walking 3 to 4 time a day. I do 2 15 minutes walks and a half hour at lunch. and on non rainy days i walk with my grandchildren at night. I'm so stinking proud of myself. i will get pics up of me real soon. I have them , I just haven't gotten them on here. All I can say is I'm absolutely in love with my new rny. I'm good at keeping things updated on here, but I will get better. I want my gf to be moviated to move forwrd with her surgery. She has just started the process. Please tell her in the end she won't regret it.
Than you all for all of your help and supoort

Well as the wife of a post op patient (June 2nd 2009) I am also starting the process. It is hard for us seeing you go through the pain and the meal changes, but I know it will be worth it in the end. You can not motivate your GF though this has to be her decision. It is hard your enthusiasm is contagious and you want what you have for her and I understand that. Just remember it has to be her choice.
I am so glad you are doing so well and are keeping up with what you need. This is a great tool and huge LIFE change so use it well and I hope both you and your GF are both happy and healthy.

Yes. No doubt this is her choice. She is ready to start the process. I just don't want her to get discouraged about the length of time it takes to get to the other side. I just remind her that for good things you have to be patient. I'm going to be going to her meetings with her, I can't wait to see the differences between Dartmouth and portsmouth.
Portsmouth requires you to lose 10% of your excess weight before they will book your surgery (and you need to maintain that loss when you check in the day of surgery). They will determine the exact goal weight at your first visit with Nancy (the coordinator) and it is all well explained at the info meetings, which are also mandatory.
At first it seems like it takes a long time, but I went to the info session in June of 2008, had surgery in January 2009 (my choice, I could have done it as early as October, but January worked well schedule-wise). I cannot believe how far I have come in one year. I have lost 85 lb between pre- and post-op, am down to a size 12 ****asionally 10) from a 22. I am also 120 lb lower than my highest ever weight.
I have absolutely no regrets, and the time has flown by!! It does seem like a long time and a lot of stuff to do when you are starting out, but it is very much worth it for your health.

Hey Heidi,
Glad to hear everything is going so well. Are you talking about Darlene? I spoke with her about two weeks ago and filled her in on the entire process. She seemed very interested. The important thing that she needs to rememeber is that it WILL eventually happen. I'm sure you remember what it was like don't you?
You and I are so similar with our eating styles except for the eggs. I tolerated them well. Rigjht now I do not tolerate meat too well.
Just when you think you are not getting enough nutrients just remember protein first, everything else second. Also remember that you are taking (or should be taking) a multi-vitamin and a calcium citrate two times a day. That along with your protein is really good and will keep you from getting malnourished. When I started out I was having an 8 ounce protein shake three times a day and water...that's it. As you know I am 6'8" and it suited me well, so don't worry about "getting enough food" Even still, I do not have hunger pains.
Well, good to hear things are going well. I have not seen you at Star. As a matter of fact, I have not seen anyone at Star. The numbers are WAY down and they get done with the race program by 8:00 PM? What's up?
Hope all is well.
Denny
BTW, I'm down to 345 now. My pre-op weight was 433.
