OT Picture format

What format do the pics need to be for this site?  I have some pics of hubby 1 week out and I am trying to post but can't seem to get them uploaded.

I think it's jpg and below a certain size. Usually if you try and fail it'll tell you what is needed. It took me a while to get my picture posted also. Keep trying.
