Hi everyone. I had joined last fall when I went to a
Lap band presentation at Keene, turns out my insurance would not cover it there and I got somewhat derailed. Well I am back at it so here I am again. I decided I was going to do more checking and turns out DHMC Hanover is Center of Excellence for Lap band so I went to the info session last Friday. Halfway through it just hit me - I want gastric bypass. I think it will work much better for me. I LOVE sweets and snacking and I live 1.5 hrs from Dartmouth. Figures I can't literally walk up the street to get it done at Keene. So my mind is made up, I have started the psych eval, met with my PCP, had a full physical scheduled for July and the blood work on Tuesday. So all that will be left is the gallblader ultrasound. I am finally so ready for this. I have hit my breaking point and am finally ready for this. I feel so good about my decision. Would love to talk to anyone else who is just gettng going as well.

Hello!  The same exact scenario happened to me except I live in the other direction (Loudon).   I am having my RNY on June 29th and am delighted with my decision.  Cathy :)

That is awesome.  You are wise to go the way you are.  With the lap band you can eat sweets and nothing will stop you.  If it is a problem, then gastric is the way to go.  Good luck with everything, and hopefully your surgery will be scheduled soon.
IF YOU ARE GOING THROUGH HELL.....KEEP GOING!!

I am glad you have jumped in, I am sort of starting myself, I went through all the classes and things with my husband,  and now I am starting the process for myself with hopes to have the surgery by December, (I did my weigh in with Nancy yesterday at Sam's 1 week post-op check)
so I am doing this for me this time.  I am the same way with sweets and am a stress baker, some people shop i bake, so this has been a real challenge for me. Ohh well Welcome and jump in wherever you can.

You may be only one person in the world, but to someone you are the world

Welcome to the club!!  I had a gastric bypass in October and for me it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.  My health has improved so much it is almost unbelievable.  Sometimes when I catch my reflection in a store mirror, I don't even recognize myself.  This is a great forum filled with caring people who are so supportive.  I am  glad you have started the journey to bettter health.

Congratulations!! It feels great when you just know it's right! I contemplated this surgery for 3 years before I finally went to the info session and I knew in my heart it was the right decision for me! I'm so happy for you! Keep us posted!

Thanks everyone! Its great to have found a place where everyone is so supportive, and fairly local as well - its not like NH is all that big. I've been trying to have a little walk each day - I am so out of shape its not funny and my back and knees are killing me. But - that will all get better someday, can't wait.

I wanted lap band too, but realized (after much debate) that bypass was the way to go because I also love sweets and am a grazer. I had surgery in January and it was uneventful and one of the best things I have ever done for my health.

Welcome to our little group!

Hello and welcome!!
I went to my info session thinking lap band but left knowing I needed RNY. It's the best thing I've ever done for myself and I have not one regret. Well that's not true..I do wish I had done it sooner but I know I did it when I was ready. Good luck on your adventure!!!
