New Hope for Osteoarthritis suffers

So I found out Thursday that I not only have osteoarthritis in my hands, but also in my right knee.  My left knee is still okay.  Right is bone on bone, hence the pain.  My doctor is going to treat me with Synvisc.  It is a jell that they inject into my knee in three separate injections a week apart.  This replaces the fluid in my joint.  The jell lasts anywhere from 6 to 8 months, but you can get repeat injections every six or eight months, which is different than corizone treatments.  It usually takes up to six weeks to feel the full results, but for 6 months of pain free movement, I will take that.  My first injection is next week, so I will let you know how it goes.

I am glad that you are  going to have that done.  I hope you are pain free and that it works for you.
Are you going to Dr King?  He is my knee dr and I really like him.  Keep us informed and keep moving after.  I hope you are pain free soon.

I've had these treatments in both of my knees and I hope they work better for you than they did for me. I went back to cortizone shots after waiting and waiting for the relief that never came. I also take celebrex every day. I have hope that the more weight I lose, the longer I'll be able to go between treatments.
I understand that Synvisc works wonderfully for many people, but it just didn't do it for me. Don't know why.

Thanks for the input Diane.  I do hope it works for me.  It is not too sever, but I am bone on bone at this point.  Not painful all of the time, just when I work it too much.

Synvisc is not the only one...there are several of these joint injections. My doc prefers euflexxa. It is still a 3 shot series. I have had it in my elbow (off label) and am going to get it in my right knee (the left knee has already been replaced and revised). For me, it helps, but certainly is not a 100% fix by a long shot. I hope you notice a big improvement.

Dr. King is supposed to be great, but I had terrible problems with his office staff and an insurance screw up that resulted in them cancelling my appt (the morning of) after I had waited several months to get in. Arrggghhhhh. I ended up having to go somewhere else because he would not take my insurance (I thold them what I had when I made the appt, but somehow they did not realize it until that am). My current joint replacement surgeon is Moby Parsons in Somersworth, and he is fantastic!!
