PM me if you would like to stay private .
I recently have been diagnosed as having bipolar, and I was wondering if any of my NH friends are or a relative, friend etc.
I do not know 1 soul that has it so I have no one to really talk to this about.
My Dr. wants me off work for the 1 year minimum for therapy .
I just don`t understand why some bipolar work and some don`t/ This I learned from the board, I have posted before and answers varied, some work, some collect SSI or SSDI.
Confused

Jen,
I'm a nurse, and my second job is in mental health...Bipolar has MANY different spectrums...some people are VERY sick...completely unable to function in the real world. Treatment compliance is whats most important. There are MANY people that work and carry on a normal life. There is alot of literature out there...i suggest read away. There are also alot of support groups out there. Invest time researching your doctor and therapist as well. Good Luck!

Hi Jen
I have been diagnosed with major depressive disorder and PSTD. I have been on some type of antidepressant for years. I am borderline bipolar, having mood swings, sudden anger, crying, major depression. Through therapy and medication I have been able, for the most part, to control my symptoms. Will it ever go away? No, but I am working on controlling it as best I can. I am on two antidepressants, and right now two mood stablizers. My doctor is hoping to take me off one of the mood stablizers.
I have been able to get up and go to work for the most part. I did just tell my boss what was going on, because I was going through a major depressive episode. He has been very supportive. I also look for support through my family and friends. November and March are my two worst months. I am better in the summer. Embrace what your doctor says to do, if you are able. There are many stages of bipolar, I am on the tip of the upward scale. One woman I know is on the bottom of the scale, having tried to commit suicide several times. She is doing much better these days. Medication compliancy is the biggest part of my program. Take your meds everyday, even if you are feeling better. Don't skip a day, don't let them run out. I am not going to tell you you will be fine, because there are days that I am not fine. But you will be better.
