How Long Does It Take?

I am seriously considering the Lap Band procedure.

I am looking at either going into the program at Catholic Medical Center or the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Are there any people here that have had the Lap Band procedure done at either one of these hospitals - and could you let me know how long it took from the time you went to info meeting to the time you had the actaul surgery?

Thanks,
Werner

I had the lap band done at PRH, and from the initial meeting until the surgery was 7 months.  It depends on how everything falls into place..

Hope that helps.  Good Luck!

Hi,

I had lap band surgery on August 15th at PRH.  I started with the April 1 information meeting.  I was techically done with all of my requirements by the middle of July, but vacations delayed surgery.

The time between your information meeting and surgery is entirely up to you.  I had my first meeting with Nancy the beginnng of May.  By the end of May, I had had my physical therapy meeting, my nutritional meeting, my initial meeting with Jeff Wagner, my support group meeting, and had signed up for the behavioral classes.  I lost all of my required weight by the beginning of July, and had my medical testing in June.

The hardest part is losing the required weight.  But if you follow the instructions and are faithful, you should not have a problem.  I needed to lose 13 pounds, I lost 22.

I absolutely would recommend PRH.  The staff is wonderful, I had Dr. Gens, and he was just fantastic.  Dr. Looser and Dr. Paculli are awesome also.  Dr. Gens was just a better fit for me.

Hope this has helped.

Hi Werner!
I had the lap band surgery last week at PRH with Dr. Pacuilli. I cannot say enough about the staff at PRH! But I have also heard the staff at CMC are great from a friend of mine who had the procedure done there last year.
I attended the first info session at the end of Sept. and saw the nurse, nutritionist and PT all in October. I was on the weight loss program and it has worked fabulously for me, I lost quite a bit of weight pre-op. My delay was mostly due to female tests I had to have done ahead that I couldn't get scheduled until February.
But the surgery went smoothly and my recovery so far has been a breeze.
I thought about this seriously for about 3 years, trying everything else I could think of before I finally went to the info session. I'm so glad now that I did. My life and my outlook on my future has completely changed in a positive way.
Best of luck to you on your journey.

Diane
