Post Surgery Question

Hi All,

I am about two weeks out now.  Really, I had very little pain, etc.  I am healing nicely.  I am going to my followup next week.  But, I had a quick question.

I have been sipping water, bullion, popsicles, etc.  I feel like I am getting plenty of water.  But, starting yesterday.  If I get up from my chair to go get something - everything goes black for a few seconds and I just need to either bend over or hold the wall.  I don't think I am dehydrated - but, anyone else experience this.

I have been trying to work on my CIB w/ protein.  But, lately, I can't seem to get them down - I get about half-way through and I can't fini****  Any suggestions? I am waiting 30 minutes before I have them - but, I feel full almost as soon as I start them.

I had an eggbeater this afternoon for a snack (first time) and they were the best tasting eggs I have ever eaten.

I feel like I'm ready for regular food (but, not going to attempt it).

Just wanted to see if anyone else experienced the blackouts.

Thanks.  Talk soon.

number 1 get up s-l-o-w-l-y.  secondly it sounds like you need to increase the protein it does not have to be CIB, I use the atkins advantage RTD and add some extra protein powder that I get from Walmart.  I also add my calcium and benefiber and fruit then mix it in my magic bullet.  Check with Dr before adding fruit.  It does take me a long time to fini**** but my protein for the one drink is between 30-40 mg.  If it continues call Nancy early and explain it to her, also touch base with Jacquie.
Good Luck

Get yourself a good quality protein shake like Isopure.  That will help a lot.  Get the protein into you any way you can, that's the thing you need the most outside of fluids.  I remember those first three weeks when I just wanted to CHEW something.  It will get better for you, but make sure you're getting at least 60 gm of protein a day, at least 64 oz of fluids and you're moving at least every 60 minutes.  Good Luck and welcome to the Loser's Bench!

Were you taking meds for high blood pressure when you had surgery?   I was and found that 2 weeks post op I had dropped enough weight that my dose had to be cut in half!  Had the classic symptoms of getting light headed and dizzy, but not so severe as yours seems to be.  I had been monitoring it because I was expecting a drop in pressure, but was pleasantly surprised it happened so quick.  Might not be what's up your case, but worth a thought.  Let us know what the Doc says tomorrow!

Even though you think you might be getting enough fluids, keep track of the amount.  You should be getting about 64 ounces of fluids a day.  For many of us, that is an awful lot.  Try and increase your fluids.  Water is the best, but if you can't stomach it, try some crystal light, or other sugar free drink mix, lemon or lime, or orange flavoring.  Dehydration can manifest in many different ways.

Hi All,

Thanks for your input.  I have increased my water intake too.  I added crystal light and that seemed to help.  I also changed my protein to an unflavored kind.  It seems better.  I just couldn't handle Chocolate and Vanilla anymore.  I would start to gag as soon as I started to drink.

I haven't been having any problems since.  So, I am feeling much much better.

Thanks all...  I appreciate all your support...

Talk soon.
