I've been so busy that I haven't stopped in lately, and look at what happened--  lots of new people have joined us!

Let's take a moment (newbies and oldies alike) to share a few details about yourself, as little or as much as you like.  You can include (or skip) your name, age, surgery type, weight loss goals, occupation, history of obesity, etc!

I go by the name Michele online  :) and I am 37

I had lapband surgery in July 2008.  When I started the program, I was 140 pounds overweight.  Now I am less than a hundred.  (I haven't lost much of anything in the last four months, but  I haven't gained anything back either, and for that I am thankful.)

I am currently an elementary school teacher, which is something I truly enjoy.

I always say that I've always been overweight, but now when I look at pictures of myself from back in the good old days, I see that I was only 20 or 30 pounds over where I should have been.  I wish I could have learned about healthy eating and exercise back then, before I got to the point where I needed surgery.

Hi Michele and everyone else,

I go by Bamma (my grandson's name for me!), but my real name is Martha (which I absolutely hate :-()  I am 51 (ugh).

I had lap band surgery on August 15, 2008.  I have been very successful and have lost 62 pounds.  Like Michele I am in a bit of a stall (2 months), but am working my way back to the surface again.  Old habits creeping in again.

I am a certified legal assistant for an attorney in Rochester.  I became a paralegal in 1996, and took my certification in 2003.  I specialize in probate and estate planning (ya, I work with dead people).

I live in Nottingham with my husband and two dogs, Pebbles and Mya.  I have been married for 31 years.  I have two grown children (oh and did I mention a grandson :-) )  I have been overweight since I was 12, and have probably gained and lost more than 500 pounds in my lifetime.

I think I am more active at 51 than I was at 31 or 41.  I snow ski (badly), water ski (much better), swim, walk, run (sort of), play dodgeball!!, play with Cameron (my grandson).

When I started my journey, I weighed 240 pounds, which unbelievable was not my heaviest.  I would like to get to 135.  I have not seen that weight since before I was married.    The lap band has been a good fit for me, and I will never regret having the surgery, and I am very open about it.  I am getting to like who I am, which is huge for me.

I hope to meet each and every one of you at some point in my journey or yours.
IF YOU ARE GOING THROUGH HELL.....KEEP GOING!!

Hi everyone,

My Name is Kate or more commonly signed K8- I just turned 31 UGH i can't believe i just typed that!!

I had RNY Feb 27th 2008, A YEAR AGO TOMORROW!!!
No complications - as a matter of fact is was one of the best things I have ever done and I would do it again in a minute!
I started at 260 and I currently weigh 135 (give or take a couple lbs) I am under my orginal goal and pretty happy where i am at.
Keep in mind i am 5.8 and work out like a crazy person 5 - 6 days a week....
I wear anything from a size 2 - 6 pant.  4 on most days.  Small tops.
The only fat I miss are my boobs!!!!!

I have been training for the firefighter physical agility test so Im attempting to put on as much muscle as i can so my weight is up and down.
My regular job has me sitting on my A&& for long periods of time.  Ive been an emergency dispatcher for 11 years. I currently work for a Fire dept so I follow thier shifts and rotations. (And eating in a firehouse is no easy task!)  But I make it work and I even try to get the boys into a healthier routine... somedays they appreciate it more than others.

I like pretty much anything thats outdoors... Snowmobile, Ski, Hike, Fish ect...
But really my new found love is for clothes shopping....

I have my stats detailed in my blog if anyone is interested. I kept track of my weight and measurements from month to month.

Oh and if you are at the PRH support group meetings Im usually front and center with something sarcastic to say..

Hello all,

I am Kalya and 30 years old.  I have not yet had the surgery but I am scheduled for lap band surgery on 3/6/09 just 8 days away.

I started the program at 308 pounds which is the highest I have ever been never went over 300 before.  I finally decided that I needed something more than just myself.

I am new to the seacoast region this past summer.  I moved from RI where I lived for 4 years working at Brown University as a certified athletic trainer (not personal trainer).  I now work at Phillips Exeter Academy in the same position.

I would like to get down to 150 pounds but I really have no idea what that is like because I have not seen that weight in a long time.  So we may have to play it by ear.

I have been struggling with weight since I was about 12 years old also.  I am excited but also nervous about the surgery.  It is nice to have a place to be excited and nervous on.  So thank you to everyone on this site and in the Portsmouth meetings.

Great idea! I'm Diane...you probably could've figured that one out. The 333 is my beginning weight. Not my heaviest...which was last year at this time when I weighed 343. I remember crying when I passed 300 and never would've believed I would gain that much more! I quit trying to lose due to the regain and regain plus syndrome I seemed to be in.

But now I have hope!
I'm having lap band done next week and I've already lost 42 pounds! Below the 300 mark again!
My goal is 180 so I've still got over 100 pounds to go!

I'm a mother of 4, 2 of them still at home, youngest is 13; I'm 47 years old, married, work for the State of NH (praying not to get laid off) as a program manager.

I'm going to the gym 4 to 5 times per week and absolutely love how I feel when I work out!
Anxious to get the surgery behind me and regain my life...the energy and ability are already starting to come back, but I still have a long way to go.

And I very much appreciate the support and encouragement I've gotten here!

Hi My name is Doreen,
I had gastric bypass on April 1st, I can't believe that I'm coming up on my 1 year anniversary!  I never imagined a year ago that I would be wearing size 8's.

The morning of the surgery I was 280, I am now at 155.  My original goal was 175, I hadn't been that small since High School. Now  I would like to lose another 10, but have really slowed down the last couple of months.  This may be where I stay. I know part of that is that I haven't been  into the exercising like I should be.  I was losing really quickly without and decided that I would start when I wanted to maintain.  The other is that I'm eating more normally, which is my ultimate goal.  My cravings for food have returned.  However now if I'm craving a cookie, I'll have 1/2 or just one, when I used to eat 6.  I count the calories and work it into my day.  In the past if I gave in and had the cookie I felt like I had failed and since I had already done that I might as well eat more.

I am a Restaurant Manager for McDonald's (22 years). I love my job but have decided that now that the kids are gone I'd like a Mon-Fri job with less stress and  responsibility.  I've gone back to school and will graduate in May with an AS in Accounting and I will transfer in the Fall to finish my BS.

My husband and I will be celebrating our 27th anniversary at the end of March. We have a son 26 and daughter 22.  We are waiting for marriages and grand-babies, but have been told someday but not to hold our breath.

This surgery was the hardest thing I've ever done, but I would do it again in a minute!

Hi, I'm Julie.  I am 42 and have 1 daughter who is a senior in college.  I am married and haved lived in Portsmouth for the past year.  Before that I lived in central Maine.  I currently work for Sprague Energy in Portsmouth, but I've done a million different things in my life including my last job at a funeral home as a bereavement facilitator.  Everytime I would remove a dead person from their home I would compare their size to my own and think, "they will never be able to get me out of my house without a big scene!"     I have been over 200 since I was 20, I started this journey out at 290, and when I weighed in with Nancy in Nov. I was at 286.  Now I am at 277.  I have decided to go with the RNY and have had my first visit with Dr. Wagner.  I have my first visit w/ the Physical Therapist next week.

I have Cigna, so I have to be under a Dr. care for 6 mos before they will approve.  I have 3 months under my belt.  I have 5 more pounds to lose before I've met my goal for surgery, but I'd like to lose at least 15 more.

I was so excited to see you all at the meeting the other night, and you girls who have already been through the surgery and have lost tons of weight are so inspiring, and you look GREAT!!!!!

I love having all of your support!

Julie

Hi Everyone!
I'm Rosemary. I had RNY on 6/2/08. I'm 50 years old. Having this surgury was the best thing I have ever done for myself. I believe it  not only saved my life but gave me a life to live. I started my journey a year ago this month and weighed in with Nancy at a whopping 317 lbs. I wore a size 30 -32. This was the highest I have ever been. Today I weigh 155 pounds. Wear a size 10 pant and a medium top. I originally set my goal at 150 and Dr. Looser told me he thought that might not be realistic. Well now I'm thinking I may rethink that number and lower it to 140 - but I want to get to 150 first.  I honestly don't remember being this small (it feels so strange to refer to myself as small). It's been a very long time.
I am married and have a son,Bill (he moved to North Carolina last summer and I miss him) and 2 wonderful daughters, Nicole and Erin who both had RNY in 2003 and have been successful.
I am a Nana to the most adorable little boy named Nathaniel and we are waiting for our first granddaughter, Ameila Rose to arrive any day!!!
I have worked very hard at my weight loss and making the changes necessary for long term success. I got myself a personal trainer - ( I had no clue on how to work out), I joined a gym for the first time in my life and most importantly I make me a priority - probably the most difficult change to make. I am at the gym at least 5 days a week. If there is one thing I can get across to the new people it's that you have to think of and make time for yourself in order to be successful. This process is personal and all about you - especially in the first few months so cut yourself some slack. I am now trying to find a balance and it's working out very nicely. My husband has been very supportive and my daughters are wonderful and great role models.
The friends I have made here are so special and their support is invaluable.
I wish all the new folks the best of luck and I will gladly offer any assistance whenever it's needed.

Rosemary
