Hi All,

I am having my surgery Monday and I am trying to get everything I need for Stage 3.

But, I can't seem to find the High Protein Sugar-Free Carnation Instant Breakfast.  I went to Market Basket and Hannafords - they only had regular and sugar free - but, that sugar-free only had 5 grams of protein...

Any suggestions where to look?  Thanks...

There is no high protein, just sugar free.  And sugar free CIBs won't last you long at all.  It's just not enough protein.  Try out the protein powders out there, there are all kinds of flavors and brands and types.  Some are awful, some are not so bad.  If you hate one kind, try another.  Be sure you guy REALLY SMALL quatities until you find something you like so you don't get stuck with a giant tub.  You can get them at Wal-Mart, GNC, tons of online places.  If you look online at bariatric nutrition sites you can find small sample sized stuff.  GNC has different products depending on the store, they are all a franchise so they get to choose what they want to carry.

You can MAKE a no sugar CIB higher in protein by adding instant milk powder to it.  Which will work fine for the short term.  But it's very high in calories for the amount of protein you get, so it's really just a solution to tide you over while you shop around protein powders and look for one you like.

Good luck on Monday!!!  Anything else you need to know, feel free to ask.

First of all, good luck with your surgery on Monday!

This is what I have done since my surgery back in September 2007, and I still have one every morning for breakfast:

1 chocolate CIB
1 scoop of EAS whey powder (chocolate)
8 oz. skim milk

Total, it gives me:

265 calories
26.9 carbs.
2.9 fats
36.3 protein

If I don't have my shake in the morning, my whole day seems thrown off.  Plus, by having the shake, there's never a problem with meeting my protein requirements.

Hi,

Thank you both for your insight...  No wonder I couldn't find high-protein sugar-free CIB - they don't make one - LOL...

I will do that...  That should be easier to find...

I will keep everyone posted.

Talk soon....  THANKS AGAIN...

I do the same thing Cathy does--  CIB, EAS Whey protein (vanilla), and skim milk.

I couldn't stomach the CIB.  I like Muscle Milk Light.  It's high in protein and low in carbs.  GNC has sample pouches of a lot of their protein supplements, so picking up one of this and one of that might make more sense, because your taste is going to change postop.
