Does anyone eat flavored Greek yogurt?
So, I finally find a yogurt I like and it has 14g of protein in 1 serving...Stonyfield Farm Greek yogurt (blueberry flavor.) It seems every time I eat it I am tired after. I'm wondering if there's too much sugar in it (16g in 1 serving.) I have also tried 2 other brands of blueberry Greek yogurt and I like those too. I'm not sure if they affected me because I wasn't paying much attention at the time. Does anyone else eat this and does it make you tired afterward? I'm kind of bummed. I may try the Fage plain yogurt and put my own fruit/granola in it and see if I can tolerate that. I can't stand to eat ANY other yogurt.

I'm afraid this is one of those "everyone is different" thing. I eat the Stonyfield Farm blueberry greek yogurt. I used to eat Fage and flavor it myself with Torani sugar free syrups, but I like the Stonyfield Farm one better. I don't get tierd at all after, as I often eat it on the way to the gym. BUT I can also eat any and all other yogurts as well. I don't dump easily, and my sugar tolerance is somewhere around 25-30 grams at a time. I'm almost a year out.
I DO get totally wiped anytime I eat carbs with no other "buffer" to them, like protein or even (gasp) fat. So something high in carb (ie. crackers) with peanut butter (fat & protein) works fine. But just crackers, and I'm in carb coma. I ate a muffin once, and literally fell asleep at my desk.
For me, carb coma and dumping (from sugar) are totally different. When I dump I have jabbing pains, I throw up, I have gut wrenching diherrah, and a blinding headache coming from the temples. It feels roughly like the stomache flu. When I go into carb coma I get so sleepy I can't keep my head up, I may or may not get a headache, and if I sleep for a couple hours I'm fine.
Oh, another difference is when I dump I feel freezing cold but sweat like a pig. It's really gross and I'm clammy and my husband doesn't want to sleep in the same bed as me. I don't dump easy, but when I do (the German Chocolate Cake fiasco of the previous holidays) it's really, really dramatic (and awful!).

Lisa,
I have been able to tolerate the flavored greek yogurts...i buy the trander joe brand (haven't seen the stoneyfield brand, i'll have to look for it). I do the Fage sometimes and flavor it myself...but i don't like it as much. I guess everyone is different, but i have a fairly high tolerance for milk sugars...and thats what the yogurts are. I can tolerate fruit too. I haven't tried something with "straight sugar", but my guess is it would be different. I know my biggest intolerance is fat...when i have made a bad choice with fat...thats when i get the tired and nausea feelings. I also like alot of other yogurts, but they aren't very "pouch worthy" so to speak...most only have 5 grams or so of protein, so in my eyes...its a waste of calories...and i would have trouble meeting my protein goals.

Hi Lisa,
I have found that adding sugar free preserves or jellies add the flavor and texture that I am looking for. I also add a little splenda or purevia to it with sugar free applesauce. Try adding sugar free blueberry preserves to the plain greek yogurt. Just check out the sugars. It is probably the sugars that are affecting you. I know that our nut, Jacquie, does not want you to have any more than 9 grams of sugar at a time.

HI Lisa,
I eat the Chobani fruit flavored and the vanilla yogurts. I prefer the vanilla because they are less calories, and I like to add my own blueberries. (I picked a bunch this past summer and froze them.) I also add Kashi Go Lean Crunch cereal (1/2 cup) to the yogurt and fruit. Neither the fruit-flavored nor the vanilla bother me though.
