Hello,

Do any of you know how long the information sessions run at Portsmouth Regional Hospital? I'm going to the on on Wednesday and, since I work 2nd shift, I have to take a the time off during my shift.  I'm just wondering how long I should take.

Thanks!

~H

Oh, and is anyone else going on Wednesday? Is anyone else as new as me?? :)

Hi Holly,

I think generally they take about 2 hours, but someone who just went through it may give you a better idea.  I guess it depends on how many questions there are, but I would plan on at least 2 hours.

Hi,

Two hrs would be a safe bet -- putting the program on schedule to end at 8:30 or so.  But the amount of qestions from the audience does play a part in the length because the physicians and other team members will answer every question that comes their way.

Also, you can now print and fill out the program's application ahead of time and bring it in with you to the session --so they can answer questions about the application as well.  The application is a new addition to the Portsmouth and Parkland websites!

Good luck!

So...I went to the information session today.  It was good!  The information they gave about the different surgery options wasn't anything I haven't heard/read before (I'm glad I did my research) but the information about their program was all new to me.  It seems like a really good program.  I like to be prepared so I had already filled out my application and copied all my insurance information.  I'm going to try and stop by tomorrow and get my  "official" start weight down on paper so any weight that I lose will go towards the 10% that they require you to lose before surgery.

I'm curious to know how long this whole process will take.  I can't wait for the next step!

Hi Holly!
Congrats on taking the next step! My name is Mandy. I started the program in November and am almost at my goal weight to see Dr Paciulli! I dragged my feet a bit in the beginning, so it has probably taken me longer than most. I would say the process will take at least 2 months, but losing the weight is what has taken me the longest!

Congratulations on taking the first steps in your journey.  You will be looking at a few months, probably.   A lot depends on how fast you get the 10% weight loss done.  It's a really great program they have set up.  You also need to go to all of Dr. Wagner's sessions prior to surgery and that's a five week program, HUGELY VALUABLE to making postop life successful.  I look forward to hearing about your journey.  We'll be saving you a seat on the Loser's Bench.
