1/23 QOTD: What's your favorite winter activity?
I missed the QOTDs!
My favorite winter activity is snow shoeing. My husband has a pair of his own and used to say how nice it was to just strap them on and go. (Doesn't that sound dirty! ) Of course, I was never very active pre-surgery, so I hadn't had much interest prior to last year. Then he bought me my own pair for my birthday last year. It's great because you can go just about anywhere to do it. I've only been once this year, but my hubby and I have signed up with about 4 other couples to do a Valentine's evening hike in Hollis. I'm really looking forward to that. I always did like cross-country skiing before that, but since I've gone show shoeing, that has become my absolute all-time favorite winter activity.
Of course, snuggling under a warm blanket or just knitting is right up there too, but I assume you mean an activity that actually burns calories!

I'd really like to take up snowshoeing. Lots of people have told me that I'd like it. The problem right now is that my son still refuses to walk on snow or ice. Maybe next year!!
The only way to make it through the winters in New England is to find something to LIKE about it! Snowshoeing would be great for us, because we live near two conservation areas, so we'd have lots of trails to go on.

Oh I love the QOTD's....Welcome back!!!
My favorite winter activity would have to be snowmobiling. We usually go to Colebrook, and snowmobile through Colebrook, Errol, Pittsburg, and sometimes Maine and Vermont. The scenery is just beautiful, and I have seen hundreds of moose, some a little closer than others. My husband and I have been snowmobiling for over 30 years, off and on. We have been going more and more the last 8 or 9 years. My daughter and son-in-law just bought a snowmobile, so they will be going north with us more also. One year we did over 4,000 miles between New Years Eve and the beginning of April. This year, we are going up north 3 times, then twice a month to our camp in Ossipee and taking day trips from there. Snowmobiling is not that strenuous, but it is still tough on the body, and you do get a workout.
I have just gotten back into snow skiing, and I am looking forward to that also. My friend and I already have tickets to Loon, which I got at half price, and we are planning on going to the Balsams and to Gunstock.
Those and going to the gym is about it....oh and reading, when I actually have time!!!

Wanna hear a weird one? This year, it's shoveling snow. That storm we just got came while our snowblower was not working (still isn't). We have a tractor with a plowblade, but I can't run it. So, my husband cleared the driveway and overnight we got more snow, right? I got out there and shoveled the driveway. It felt great! I wasn't out there planning to do it, but I did one little piece at a time and before I knew it, it was "heck did I do that?" (Yes, Urkel, you did!)
Boy was hubby surprised when he got home from work.
I used to snowmobile (went snowmobiling on our honeymoon, in fact) and would love to try snowshoeing. It sounds like fun.

I am right there with you Shirley. I used to hate it, but I think because I can now with greater ease, it is fun. I shoveled a path to our bird feeders, and all round. I shoveled out our mailbox. My driveway is a bit too long to shovel!!
I would also love to try snowshoeing. I think we should all get together one weekend and go for a hike!!

Ok "twin"! This is getting spooky! You keep saying we're so much alike! I think we should try to organize something. The only place I know to rent snowshoes is in Salem, NH. Wouldn't that be a hoot if we could pull it off?
