Checking In
Well howdy to one and all,
I've been absent and missing this community. Let's start with the good news - I am eating pretty well these days. I have moved off of mushies and added a number of foods that are a big help in getting a more balanced plate. I love soy crisps and my crockpot. I had some turkey breast and green beans for T Day with no problems aside from being awfully full on just 3 oz. My blood work shows I am doing good so far as B12, electrolytes, and folate are concerned. This is all very good.
I'm 10 weeks post -op and I attended a wake today of close friends/family and 3 people looked right thru me - they didn't know me from Adam! That was kind of scary. Here I am offering condolences to people I've known for 25 years and they don't me. Weird.
The not so great news is that I am severely anemic. My ferretin is 3.0 and my hemaglobin and hematacrit are very low, too. I'm suppose to take 325 mg of ferous sulfate 3xs a day but, as you know, I can't do that and get my 4-5 doses of Ca in so I have to take all of that iron in 1 or 2 doses at night. Man, it hurts my guts like you can't believe.
I spoke with Nancy and I guess they don't often see this so early post-op. Well, leave it to me, eh? Looks like the ulcer meds are likely reducing my ability to absorb iron to about zero. Of course, I feel pretty poorly. I have nearly blacked out a number of times. I suspected anemia and that's why I went to my PCP. Now the question is whether I can raise my numbers quickly enough. If not I'm facing infusions and for me that means having to have a PICC line put in. Well, I'll stop there and just hope the pills do the job and that my guts will hold out and tolerate the pills.
I'll be retested Dec 10 so we'll see then. I'm here but I am pretty flat by dark so I can't post too much. Wishing you all the best of the holiday season. Soon. Treading
