How long from consult to surgery

Hi Everyone,

Just wondering what the average timeframe for surgey is in NH.  If you have no insurance issues and get approved what is the usual wait time?  Is there a long wait time to get in to see a surgeon initially?

I guess it depends on which program you are in.  I went to the information meeting on April 1, and had my surgery on August 15.  There was a delay for me, I was actually ready by the middle of July, but between vacations and such, I had to wait until August.

My wait was 8 months, from meeting my surgeon til surgery day. Lot's of time to listen read and learn.
I read your blog and you had surgery just after I did, are you looking for a revision now?

What was your original surgery and what are you having done this time?  I am so on the fence with what I want to do.

I'm not having surgery again, no need, when I have a gain I just buckle down and get back to basics, sorry if I didn't make that clear...I would not go for a revision nor would my original surgeon recommend it. If you had a lap band well then maybe a revision to RNY but not if the original surgery was RNY... what will you have done.?

I have had so many surgeries, between my RNY, gallbladder, 2 exploritories, 2 PS that I am hopefully done. I guess I am just so use to dieting that I know if I buckle down and follow the rules that I can get back to goal if I try really hard.

Does anyone in NH do revisions?  I don't know about the Dartmouth program but I know in Portsmouth the only choices are Band or RNY.  None of the surgeons there do DS or anything. What programs are you looking into?  Are you looking around here or looking to travel to get a DS?  I just assume, because the most common revision for Band seems to be RNY and the most common revision for RNY seems to be DS.  So what did you have and what are you trying to get?

I had the RNY and it looks like the closest doc who would do a revision is in NJ (to theDS).  But, the more research I am doing the more scared I get and think I am going to try non surgical options right now.

I dunno average in NH but the program at Portsmouth Regional Hospital really can't be done in less than three months.  If everything goes as fast as humanly possible - you meet the nurse practitioner the day after your info session, you get very prompt meetings with nutritionist, you start your behaviorist classes as soon as possible, you have no problems loosing your pre-surgery weight quickly and you take classes in both Portsmouth and Derry so you can get in your required number of support groups as quickly as possible - you still can't do it in less than three months.  I got insurance approval in 48 hours and my surgery scheduled for less than a week later.  I decided to persue this the day after Christmas 07.  I went to the info session the first or second week of January.  I had surgery March 25th.  Most people take longer.  If you run into a wait for the surgeon, if you have any problems with your required pre-surgery wait or if you find it hard to schedule your appointments with the nutrionist, psychologist, nurse co-ordinator, surgeon and physical therapist then six months isn't at all uncommon.

 I went to my first informational meeting in June, and I am scheduled for my Lap band on 12/8.  I saw my surgeon on 10/24 and got the call a week later that my surgery was booked for 12/8.  So..in all about 6 months.  In my opinion, it gives us the opportunities to read, get as much information as possible in order to make the choice that works for us.   I am going through the program at DHMC in Manchester and everything was very organized and none of my appts took any major jump through hoops to get me there.  Good luck with your endeavors !
