QOTD~ Favorite halloween memory as a kid
ok, i know i'm not the one listing the QOTD, but
thought i would throw this out there..........
so what is your favorite memory of trick or treating and halloween as a kid?
i have a very fond memory of course of eating the candy!.hehe
but besides that i would have to go with the year i was a mail box..... yes a mail box, not the best costume to cover the most territory for candy, but the fun we had creating it and the comments trick or treating will last a lifetime
it was a huge box that we covered with construction paper to look just like a mail box, we cut a opening in the front for the "mail drop" or candy drop and i was inside the box with just my head sticking out, i would hold the bag on the inside under the slot for the candy to drop in....... i do recall trying to run in that box..........uhhhhhhhhhhhhh that didn't work out to well...
what about you?

I was the last of 7 kids. Mom wasn't much in the mood anymore. Something sad had happened in the family so I had no expectation of even going out for candy as all the other kids were either too old or off with frends. At the very last minute, Mom told me to suit up and helped me put togehter some custume. It was just us two and while Mom was never in the mood for a party or too much fun, she did adore candy and chocolate. By the time we got to the 5th house she looked at me with conspiracy in her eyes and said, "Hell, let's eat it as we go!" We had a ton of laughs after that deciding which candy would be relegated into the proverbial pillow case and which would be gobbled up on the spot. Sort of heretical to eat candy while you're Trick or Treating, eh? And I'll never forget her genuine disgust with the house that always gave you a toothbrush!
We lived in a huge neighborhood in Portsmouth. We knew everyone around us. My mom made all of our costumes (4 girls), and my dad would take us out. We went from house to house, and our bags were so full, we could hardly carry them. It was a time that you did not have to worry about all the bad stuff you do now. We had a big oak tree in front of our house that had a growth on it that made it look like a butt. We even called it the bum tree. Every Halloween, we would wake up the next morning, and there would be toilet paper coming out of the crack in the "bum". We always tried to be the first downstairs to see the bum tree, and every year, it got better and better.
Later, in high school, the band we were in went to the band director's house, and played in the street. We would shut down the whole street....the bank was over 250 members strong. We would wake the neighbors, play for about a half an hour, and then go into the back yard for cider and hot chocolate.

Back when I was Trick or treating all the kids would go out together with our older Brothers & sisters. After going for hours and more blocks than I can remember we headed home to empty our bags for inspection and then my Dad would take us up to the local Funeral Home. It was a neighborhood one and they LOVED halloween. They would not schedule calling hours on Halloween and they decked out their garage as a haunted house. Right down to a coffin w/ a "Body " inside. Then they had the porch all done up with tables and games. Bobbing for apples donuts on a string, lots of fun things. We all were sent home with another bag of candy from them too...aghhh memories...
