Somethings Wrong
Well Folks, Lady Luck still shuns me. I will be having an endoscopic procedure tomorrow at PRH. I continue to have worsening ulcer -type pain whenever I eat anything. The carafate medication seemed to help a small bit but as the day progressed the pain kept mounting. I'm now on water only and we'll see what they see tomorrow.
A well-meaning co-worker tried to encourage me today by telling me that her Dad recently had a ulcer treated endoscopically. No surgery. She really thought she was helping me by tellimg me all about how they just went down his throat with a tool and cauterized the ulcer - twice! Now I would be very pleased to never have surgery again. But the mental image she drew for me had me nearly in tears. My poor guts! LOL. But I'm going to wait and see what we shall see. What they see, I mean. I'll let you know. Treading Water here. Blowing bubbles!

Just keep swimming, just keep swimming and keep that head above water!!
You poor thing. I am so very sorry for this other setback. Perhaps you are allergic to work and shouldn't go back again for a bit. PLEASE take it easy and I hope that mental picture your "helpful" coworker drew for you is correct in that it helps without surgery but is not painful or bad. Dr. Gens will take care of you.
You are in my prayers, and I will be sure to be praying extra hard for you today.

Me--the biggest baby and still having regrets and here I am almost 5 months out and doing fine.
I wish you good luck and am sending prayers your way .

You are all so thoughtful and I truly appreciate the support and prayers and well-wishes. I'm home. Dx is ulcer of the blind or remnant stomach! I sure would feel better if
they had made the Dx on basis of sight but you can't look in the blind
stomach with a scope. But all else indicates ulcer and it does happen this
way for a very few patients - so they are probably right. Good news is that
my new plumbing looks GREAT! Tx is the same for either stomach - lots of
acid blocking meds and the carafate for 2 weeks and then continue or taper
down depending on symptoms. Could be 8 wks before completely healed.
Bummer. I had to ask the 'what if question'. What if I do this treatment and in 8 weeks I'm not better? Then Gens will have to go in and look in the blind stomach. Come on Prilosec and carafate - do your stuff! LOL.
I'm drinking the first protein shake I'd describe as good tasting since
surgery. My order for ISOPURE came in with the SF syrups (brown sugar
cinnamon). What a difference. No gross protein smell or taste at all.
Heaven. Also no pain but that may be due to the narcotics and the huge dose of prilosec I received while at PRH. No matter. I'll take it.
I didn't see Gens today but I do feel good in his care. The PRH staff and doc I had today were wonderful. But all of my visits to PRH have been impressive. Well, I have to lie down. It's a haul there and back for ma. Thanks again for thinking of me. I knew going into this that I was a problem patient with a history of complications. That's why I was so serious about the whole thing. Still am. But I do not second guess my decision. I made it for valid medical reasons. I believed I was trading risks and in my favor. Time alone will tell me if I made the right choice. No bitterness here. Some trepidation, you bet. For today, this is a minor glitch. Treading
