Question of the day
Do you track your foods? What do you use? Are you religious about it? Any issues with tracking?
I started using the daily plate. I tried using fitday, but I would search for food and it wouldn't come up and was just kind of a PITA. Of course I don't like that any Tom Dick or Harry can edit things on TDP. I've just started the tracking this past weekend and find I have a hard time with things like a full recipe for stuff. Like corn chowder - everyone makes it different, ya know?
I've always had a problem tracking foods (especially from previous weight loss efforts) so I am hoping I can really make a good effort to make this a part of my life like chewing eleventy billion times.

Been there...and it is just not happening for me. I can't seem to ever continue to track. I am good for a week or two, and then I fall off the tracking wagon. I find that planning menus helps more. I try and plan all meals and one snack. When I stick to the menu, I do really well, and it is something you can create yourself on your computer, or even by hand.
I don't track my food. I should, but I don't. Sometimes I track in my head (protein total), but that's rare too. I always hated journaling my food (and points) when I was on WW. I always said I don't want to have to write down what I eat for the rest of my life.
I'm pretty sure I'm not getting what I need and I know that's bad. I'm still finding it hard to eat "normal" food. I totally expected this lifestyle change, but I'm a little sad that I can't sit down with my family for a "normal" meal. KWIM?

I don't track anymore. I used to, but don't feel that I need to right now. If my weight started creeping up, I would use thedailyplate.com - that was the tool I liked the best.
I realized yesterday - at a "Ham & Bean Supper" that I'm now eating like a normal healthy person. It's not that I don't think about what I eat, but I don't have to think about it constantly, and eating healthy is now my "new normal". Yay!!

I use My Daily Plate but I don't do it everyday. I used to but I'm not very adventurous so I find myself eating the same stuff. If I try something new I use it. I measure and weigh everything though. I'm going through a don't feel like eating phase. I have to force myself. That concept still shocks me.
Hi Jenn,
I am tracking but using my own word document to do it. I track all my meds/vits/protein and then record my foods. For now I only total up ounces or grams, protein and calories. I track my weight and any 'issues' on the day's sheet. I've been playing with the fitday.com site but so far I find it pretty disappointing. I create a custom food (say egg salad) but if I try to call it back up and have it use the recipe and calculate the nutrition for a new quantity, I get the old. I also have created a sort of running journal of the foods I am eating so I don't have to keep going back to the container of soy milk to figure out the cals in 3 oz, say. I'd be happy to share my tracking sheets with you and you could modify it to meet your needs.
I bought a fancy digital scale pre-op and it has 1000 foods on board with their nut values. Put on 3 boiled shrimp and press the right code "XYZ" and you'll get all the info. Nifty. Or it would be if I could locate the dang manual !!!!!!!!!!!! LOL. Me, Miss Organization, somehow org'ed that right into oblivion! I'm going to have to call the company soon, I guess. The scale also allows you to create custom items.
