Apparently you should not clean toilets at 2 weeks post op

Because I set myself back a few days.  I started feeling better on Wednesday and the bathrooms needed cleaning, so I decided to clean them.  Well, all the bending down seems to have made something on the right side of my stomach really angry.  It feels like a badly pulled muscle and hurts prettty bad.  I am such a bonehead.

I saw Dr. P yesterday and she was happy with my progression.  I still have a deep wound from the infection and that is slowing healing as well.  I have been pumping close to 100g of protein in a day to heal.  I'll start seeing Dr. P once a week at the wound care center at PRH and my wonderful DH is going to pack my wound from once a day to twice a day because it's a PITA to have the visiting nurse come by.  She'll still come once a week tho.

And better news I get to start my stage 4 ground/blenderized foods!  WOOHOO!!!  If anyone has any fun recipes, I'd love some.

Still moving up, despite some setbacks, some that weren't in my control, some are.

Hang in there Jen.  You're on the road to recovery!  Please tell me how you are getting in 100g of protein!!!  That is great!

So, no more cleaning until you are 100%.  Maybe even wait a little longer because if you feel good, you still may be healing inside.

Good luck on stage 4.  No help from me with food.  Sorry.  I still can't eat many things.

Do I HAVE to come out there and discipline you, Jenn?  LOL.  It is so hard to not do thngs, don't I know.  My right side pain is pretty fierce, too.  I am wearing an ACE back support brace and I think it helps with the pain as I am walking about.

Here are some foods I'm enjoying:  chicken salad.  I cooked breasts in the crockpot for 7 hours with onion and chicken broth and some seasonings.  I drained off the liquid and then ran the meat and onions thru the food processor but good.  I take a 1/4 c of the chicken mush and mix it up with 2 tbsps of light mayo and some celery seeds and a dash of s and p - yummy.  I did just about the same thing tonight but with boiled shrimp - way yummy.  I desperately need the fats and the proteins, of course.  Best yet, these recipes have less than 2 g of sugar and I seem to have a record low tolerance for sugar right now.  Egg beaters - scrambled with PAM and a tsp of butter.  In the pan I heat up 2 TSPB of low fat ricotta and 2 TSPBs of pureed Newman's salso.  Yummy again.  And then I also heated up 1/4 c refried beans and toped it with melted Laughing Cow light swiss cheese wedge and the same salsa.  Also yummy.  For veggies I'm sticking to baby purees with some seasonings.

My big news is that I've found a f ew protein powders that I can mix with water and so my protein intake has gone from a high of 22 g a day to 90 today.  Yahoo!

I still walk like an invalid and the muscle spasm are intense at times.  But overall I am doing so much better.  Leave the toilets alone and you'll feel better, too.  Best thing I ever did was get a neighbor and to come in  and do 2 hrs a week of the basic housekeeping.  My DH is a powerhouse but he's already handling so much extra that this is money very well spent.  Plus, I am a neat freak and I can't relax and take care of myself if the counters are messy.  I just can't.  A dirty tiolet would kill me dead. LOL.

How much more time do you have off work?  I go back to Gens next Thursday and I hope to be able to talk work then.  This week he wouldn't even discuss it.  Smart man because I can barely manage to make a cup of tea as yet.  But I'm on the move and look out.  Treading

I knew I would get that response from you!   Well, the overdoing it pain has gotten a lot worse.  Like doubled over worse.  Did you pull a muscle in your abdomen when you fell, Treading?  I took some of my left over pain medicine and that made it feel a litle better.  I called the 'on call' Dr today asking if something could be called in for me and he basically said to suck it up or go to the ER.  After my last 11 stint in the ER I am VERY VERY reluctant to go back.  If it's not better by Monday I suppose I'll call Dr. Pacuilli.  Of course I have no clue how long it takes for a pulled/strained muscle to heal.

Thanks for the recipes!  I'll have to try some of that this weekend. I'm so happy you have found a protein powder that works for you and you can get in all your protein!  I still need to be doing about 90g's while I am healing so I'm a little apprehensivfe to go off the protein shakes.  Ah, well it will all work out in the end.  I just want to start feeling like a normal person!  I am staying out of work all next week and then probably start half days after that.  Thankfully my Dept is extremely nice - once they heard about my infection and stuff, they said they didn't expect me back next week.  Gotta focus on taking it easy and healing.  My DH has been a godsend as well for me, he changes my wound dressing 2x a day, gets me my food and takes care of the animals and does clean (of course not how I would do it, but at this point I don''t care since SOMETHING is being done!)

Definitely an interesting ride so far....

Morning Jenn,
I'm so sorry to know your pain is worse.  And I appreciate your reluctance to go thru the ER.  Horrors, that.  I too am now near out of roxicet.  My main chore today is to get to the pharmacy for a better form of tylenol.  I won't take the liquid (too much sugar) and crushing the tablets is too disgusting and it makes me gag.  MUST not wretch!
Yes, I have pulled or torn a muscle or muscles on my right side near my incisions during my fall.  Gens did not find any sign of rupture or hernia so we are letting time do its magic.  But it is very slow going and I don't know what he'll say when he sees me on Thursday.  It is getting slightly less painful but I am still fairly incapacitated by it.  I do walk several times a day and I move around the house and kitchen but you'd think I'd just had surgery 4 days ago to look at me move, I'm that slow and frozen.
Luckily my left side is greatly improved.  From the start I had intense pain on my left side.  Gens thinks it this was due to 2 things 1) internal stitches that trapped a nerve bundle on the abdominal wall and the internal bleeding that caused a large hematoma to form there.  And then, with the dumping , I clean pulled all that area again.  Major ouch!.  It was only about 5 days ago that the left side pain started to ease up.
So I have to agree with you that this has been a long, strange trip so far.  Think about trying a brace or binder.  It helps me tremendously.   Thinking about you, Treading

Jenn,

WOW...take it easy, you'll have plenty of time for toilets before you know it.  Hope your feeling better soon :)
