Since leaving the hospital over 2 1/2 weeks ago I have had pain at my IV site that has been getting worse and has now moved all the way down to my elbow.  VERY sensitive to the touch or just moving my arm. Dr, said use a warm cloth on it. Well, it's been over a week of heat therepy and there has been no change.
Anyone else have this symptom?
Or know how I may be able to relieve it.

Hey Craig,

I've had that following surgery before (not from RNY but when I had knee replacement).  It lasted off and on for about a month.  I found using a warm cloth (or what worked better for me was a heating pad) on it... 30 minutes on, 30 minutes off..   A friend who is a OR nurse told me that it will happen if the IV had disturbed a nerve.

I hope you are feeling better soon.

Tammy

Thanks for the info. I will continue with the heat then. Hopefully it clears up soon.

Thanks again.

I had that too.  The vein even seemed to get a little 'hard' too.  I took to putting a warm heating pad on it....  My IVs always seem to 'infultrate'? and it is never fun.
