Infections are bad, mmkay?

So I'm back at PRH (they do have a wireless signal here, btw) again.  I was obviously missing the place so much I had to come back for more.  When I posted that thread a couple days ago, I didn't know that I was brewing a nasty little infection in my main site on my left.  I was told, it;s the one most people complain about hurting the worst.  Well, the pain kept increasing througout Sunday and I had a fever.  I figured the fever may be due to pain, but called anyway and got an associate of Dr. Pacuilli and she said if you are feeling bad to come to the ER, but it was up to me.  I figured I was just being a wuss.  But I really felt bad Monday morning, so after speaking with Dr. Pacuilli herself, I headed over to PRH ER.

A chest xray, CT Scan and ELEVEN HOURS IN THE ER without anything to eat or drink, I was brought to a room back up on the 4th floor.  What a miserable day.  On top of it, when Dr. Pacuilli came to see me, she had to cut me open (in the ER) to drain all the puss and bad stuff out of there.  So now I have a hole in my side that needs to be packed with sterile gauze and anti-bad stuff.  My poor (very loving, tolerating, adoring) husband had to be trained how to do these packings as VNA will only come once a day and they need to be done 2x a day.

So I am back on the road to recovery and on vicodin for pain because I absolutely LOATHED the rocksaset(sp).  Oof, that stuff knocked me out,  At least I can stay away throughout the day now.  I'll need to make sure I bump up my protein intake as I'll need it for fast healing,  I should be outta here tonight after I have my last IV antibiotic (although I've had a million in the past 24 hours) and dressing change.

Never a dull moment.  I'm (once again) on the road to recovery!

Jenn,

It sounds like you're in good spirits despite the setback.  I hope you feel better soon.  Remember to rest as much as possible.  Healing is your #1 priority.

Wow Jenn, I cannot believe that this is happening to you.  I am so glad to hear that your spirits are still good.  That will go a long way to help your recovery.  Keep smiling, and rest.  I am sure you will pull out of this with flying colors.

Geez I hope you start to feel better soon.  Sorry you're having such a hard time.  But it will all be worth it in the end!

Good grief, Jenn, you too!   I'm very glad you got back there when you did.  I sympathize and understand how awful that ER day must have been.  I cried like a baby when I arrived back on the 4th floor myself.  My DH had a wound infection after his appendectomy.  It is utterly gross but I dealt with dressing the wound and your DH will, too.  My own saga continues but I'll start a new post for that.  I'm thinking about you, Jenn.  Treading

Thanks, all.  I seem to be getting better everyday, but still sore and tired.  Pain gets better everyday and I am pumping in the protein like there is no tomorrow.  I keep thinking healing thoughts and making sure we all stay sterile around the house (which is nearly impossible!)  I'm feeling like I can do a little more everyday, but trying not to pu**** yet.  I am getting a little bored, but the pain med gives me a short attention span. I do want to get out of my jammies and go outside or do something.

How soon after surgery did people go out - like quick trips to the grocery and stuff? I guess just need to wait and see.

The week after my surgery, my Mom picked me up and took me to her place on the lake.  My DH met me up there on the weekend.  It was really nice.  I needed a change of scenery too.  The other thing I remember doing right away was walking around my back yard - just so I could say that I got out of the house.  I don't think I drove for awhile, like maybe 3 weeks at least.

I was very fortunate in that I had absolutely no side effects from the surgery.  I drove myself to the store 3 days after surgery.  I saw Dr Gould about 12 days after surgery and he laughed and asked me "I DID operate on you, didn't I??"  As I was full of energy and had no pain.  In fact, I attended a wedding (and even got my DBF to dance!) 13 days after surgery.

I am confident that you will find yourself having more energy each day.  Even walking around the inside of your home, or walking in your yard a little each day will help to get rid of that "cabin fever" feeling.
