What a night
Well I had my first big test last night. My husband and I were invited to a 50th birthday party for one of our customers. We have known him for about 4 years, and have restored two cars for him. We were the only couple there that had not known him for 15+ years!! The party was at the Lanam Club in Andover MA. When we pulled into the parking lot with my Toyota Tundra pickup truck!! I knew we were in trouble....we are just simple, hard working folks from a small town. The parking lot was filled with lexus, mercedes, BMW's, ugh. We walked in, and there were women there with perfect manicures, hair, clothes....and here I was in my Walmart special. At least it fit!! We definately saw how the "other side" lives. We gradually started to meet people, and sat down for dinner. I had my first glass of wine...which took me four hours to drink. They were serving filet mignon, and salmon. Well I can have salmon anytime. We started with salad, and I took about a quarter cup of caesar salad, and did not even finish that. The entree was filet mignon, bigger than my fist and an inch thick!! asparagus wrapped in bacon, and some kind of potato, I think it was sweet potato over julienne. I only ate less than a half of the filet, maybe two or three bites of potatoe, and a couple of stalks of asparagus. They even let us bring the left overs home...so my husband is having filet for lunch!!! I was still eating when they were doing the speeches, and gifts!! I started out feeling a little uncomfortable, but in the end, I realized that no one was paying attention!! They had an ice cream bar and cake for dessert, and I had a couple of small spoonfuls of ice cream and a couple of bites of cake. The funniest thing is I did not think I was missing out on anything!! I totally enjoyed the evening, did not overeat at all, and felt so good about myself. My husband and I talked on the way home, and he was so proud of me, that I kept to my plan. We also decided that that one dinner party costed more than what he and I make in a month combined!!!!!! Still, I like being a simple, hard worker from a small town in NH!!! Money does not buy anything, but multiple divorces....which was the biggest topic of conversation throughout the night!!!!!
I'm glad you had such a wonderful night. I used to work in Andover. Most likely, a lot of my former clients were at that party. And yeah, divorce runs rampant among this group. Keep this evening in your mind forever. It's the first of many.
