How long does it take to get the protein in
Well...i know i've only been home a day....but how long does it take to be able to get this required protein in. I was able to have about 3ozs (over 45mins) of a shake down, and maybe 2ozs of Yogurt...and then my water...but thats it for today. I'm assuming its ok to take a week or so...maybe more to get that protein in. Any suggestions??

I start with my protein drink 9Atkins Shakes - ready to drink) when I first get up. Each drink is 11 ounces and 15 grams of protein. Sometimes I can finish them in 30 - 40 minutes, sometimes it takes me an hour or an hour and quarter. Then drink water (crystal light****il 1/2 hour before the next "meal". If i keep this up I can get at least 2 -- 11 ounce drinks in, often I can get 3 drinks in. But my days start really early 530 am since I have kids to get off to school. Just keep on trying and remember that the shakes also count as your fluids.
Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

I haven't had surgery yet, but when I saw the nutritionist I told her I make protein shakes by mixing one Atkins Ready to drink shake, one scoop of Body Fortress (a whey protein mix available at Wal-Mart for about $14 per 2 pound canister), add two ice cubes and shake well to blend. That gives you 41 grams of protein in one shake. You can vary the flavors by mixing and matching to add some variety to things. The nutritionist thought it looked great. Like I said, I haven't had surgery yet, but I usually do this as breakfast on weekdays to help get acclimated to how things will be post-op and to maximize my nutrition now to get ready for RNY. Also, "AnyWhey" is an almost tasteless protein powder than mizes well into lots of things. Hope this helps.

Kristene,
I lived on Carnation Instant Breakfast no sugar added shakes that I would mix with skim milk and EAS whey powder that I bought at Sam's Club. I also ate a lot of FF cream soups. Those were my biggest portions of my daily diet back then. Thing is, you've got to really work at getting that protein in right away. Besides, what you eat now will help you 3 or 4 months down the road. That's when your hair may start to fall out, which happens mainly because of the lack of protein you're getting now. You may not be able to prevent hair loss, but the more nutrition you can give your body now, the better off you'll be in the long run. Good luck!
