8/28 QOTD: Weekend plans?

We skipped Clark's this year.  My son is three, and I knew he would be completely freaked out on the train ride, because at one point, a wild mountain man comes out of the woods and starts shooting atthe train.  I figure we'll wait until he's five or so and can understand the difference between real and make believe.

I forgot all about York animals kingdom!  I'll put it on the list for next year.  :)

We are working on our bathroom and hallway Friday, then up to camp later that day.  My daughter, son-in-law and grandson are coming up Friday night also.  We will probably go to Storyland or Santa's Village either Saturday or Sunday.  Other than that, it is just being out on the boat with the family, enjoying the sun (hopefully).  And really great campfires at night.  This will be one of our last weekends at camp because we want to finish our projects to refinance our house.  We hope to go to Pittsburg, NH within the next two weeks and go out on First Connecticut Lake and look at foliage and such.  Hard to believe that it is that time of year already!!

This is PERFECT campfire weather!  I'm a little jealous!  LOL!  I guess I could just built one in my back yard.  :)

It is definitely hard to believe that it's time for the leaves to start changing, but even in my own yard, I've noticed a few splotches of red.

Hey ladies.  I have not posted here for awhile.  Took me being worried about Cindy to drag me back. I am SO GLAD to see there are many more people on there now.  When I started we got about a couple of posts a week!

OK..anyway..this summer has been too short.  The kids got out of school right before the beginning of July.  We did just get back from a vacation to Bar Harbor (LOVE IT THERE) and there are a ton of things to do around the house.   I would like to have a cookout here with some friends and kick back but feel like we should get one more thing in for the kids.  The Beach or York Animal kingdom or something.  I guess nothing says we can't do that in September..it just FEELS like it...kwim?

Otherwise it will be staining the porch and shed, moving some of my flowers and cutting the grass and heaven forbid I actually clean the house because it really needs the heave ho (as in heave ho all the kids toys I keep stepping on and all the clothes I still have in my closet that don't fit) but that can wait for a rainy day!

My son's toys seem to have taken over my house as well!  I need to give a few of them the old heave ho!  LOL!

Hi All,
Seems impossible that my DH and I haven't ever made it to Clark's.  I think we'd love it.  But we are going to the Hopkinton Fair one day this weekend.  We will also take the dogs out in our luxury boat (read inlfatable boat) for a last toot around William's Pond.  Otherwise it will be chores and more preparing for my surgery and recovery.  Fun.

I just have to comment on the fair thing.  Is anyone else just totally disgusted at the PRICES???  I remember when it was like $5 to get in.  I think I read yesterday that the Lancaster fair (which we always liked because it wasnt too big!)  was charging I think $15.  Now, then add on top of that a ride or two (don't get me started!  Where did the little bands go that you could buy and ride all night? for one price) a candy apple (totally not WLS friendly!) or something....you are up over $30 a person EASY, not to mention if you thought you might actually play a game or actually eat dinner.

I remember growing up in Laconia we always had the Elk's carnival.  Such fun with turtle races for a quarter, a small rides section with at least 4-5 adult rides, grilled italian sausage, fried dough and BINGO.  Happy memories.  I think I will definately miss the fried dough!

I'm going to the Fair but don't get ME started.  The prices are just as you say.  But what really dampens my enthusiasm is the outright and overwhelming marketing spaces and info-mercials.  Where are the burgers being made by the Girl Scouts to support their troops?  I found ONE venue at the Balloon Festival that supported a local non-profit- just one.  So whereas we used to love to visit 4 - 5 fairs every year, we now skip a year and then take in one and mainly just for the animals and fiber arts.  It's much easier on us as we don't have kids to negotiate past the runway.  The massive crowds keep us away from the big fairs entirely.  Our last trip to The Big E was ruined by the crush and crowds.  That's OK though - some love the crowds.  Fine by me.

I'm a fiber nut.  Wool and alpaca and so on.  So I never miss the Wool/Fiber Arts Festival or the Wool Tour.  These events are much more enjoyable to me.  ALso, the Arts and Crafts Fair at Sunapee is great.
