My Hiatus!/Keene LONG!!!
Well, hey gang!!
I have not been on the board in what seems like, forever! Well... Some of you I may have told this before but I was having a lot of health problems since April... Thank Goodness - They have FINALLY figured out what was wrong!!!
I was having (sorry if TMI!!!) bloody diarrhea - they tested me for everything and I even contacted Dr. Gould's assistant to see if it had anything to do with the band... It didn't, and I was actually a total mystery to all my doctors for quite some time....
Okay - now I have to tell you, that my PCP is in Peterborough, and the Gastroenterologists that he uses are in Keene... Hands Down, my Gastroenterologist is the Best Doctor EVER! (Dr. Daniel Rath). He is absolutely INCREDIBLE, I can't say enough about him!!! I actually did not start out with him, I started with one of the Gastroenterologists that was in the same practice as Dr. Gould.... Who was nice, but when he couldn't figure out what was wrong with me I went to Keene since that is where my PCP wanted me to go... anyway! Dr. Rath saw me urgently on the same day that my doctor called him, because I was really sick this one day... he called me right after my doctor had contacted him, chatted with me like we were old friends and had me go in for a CT scan. It was really scary and I had pretty much been diagnosed with Crohns Disease even though it was not 100%... So there I was sitting in the waiting room waiting to have my CT scan and Dr. Rath actually came out to introduce himself to me... It made such a world of difference and really decreased my anxiety level!!! Anyway, fast forward a couple of weeks and Dr. Rath actually found out what was wrong with me!! I had C-Diff the whole time which is basically a parasite that lives in your GI tract, and when your normal flora are wiped out, such as when taking an antibiotic for a sinus infection, (which is what we assume happened to me) it can take over and make you really sick... I had been tested for this way back in the beginning but turns out I had a false negative!!!
On 8/11, just a couple days after being diagnosed with the C-diff, Dr. Rath admitted me to the hospital for IV antibiotics, pain medication and re-hydration because I was so dehydrated! I was there for 10 days - in Chesire Medical Center in Keene.... Dr. Rath came to see me most days twice, he called both me and the nurses to check on me, and he even showed up as late as 9:30 or 10:30 at night... He's unreal - So caring!!!
He also called a surgical and GYN consult for me just to make 100% sure that my abdominal pain wasn't caused by something else....
So there's my first recommendation - if you ever need a Gastroenterologist, go see Dr. Rath in Keene... You won't be disappointed with your care!
Onto the second part of my story... Keene is starting a lap band program - actually they've done their first few... and I got to meet the PA (Pam) and the Surgeon, (Dr. Dupuis) because he is the surgeon that did my consult... He is REALLY nice, and so is Pam... So - if anyone is in the Keene area, I highly recommend checking out their program!!! Dr. Dupuis did his training at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA so I am sure he had great training, too!!! Keene's next meeting is Sept 9th, and I am going to go and speak for them as a post op since they don't have too many of their own yet.
Thanks for letting me ramble... and if anyone was wondering, the C-diff should be gone after a few more weeks of oral antibiotics... thank Goodess... boy is it miserable stuff!

Wow, Cindy, that's some story! C-diff and a false negative- ikes. So glad you ended up in this guy's hands and he gave you good care and figured it out. C-diff isn't any picnic but it beats the heck out of Crohn's!!!! I do hope you feel much better and quick. To have that for so long - how terrible. Treading
Hi Cindi,
Wow, I have been having stomach pains for over 16 months now and I have gone to 5 gastro doctors and when they couldn't figure out what was wrong, they basically told me it was all in my head. Your issues sound the same as mine all except I do not have any blood showing.
My surgeon has been going crazy trying to figure this out. I have had several MRI's and Cat Scans and aall they see is alot of stool in my intestines.
I hope you don't mind but I copied and pasted your story to e-mail to Dr. Brown to see if maybe this is something to look into again. I too tested negative for C-Diff while in the hospital for nine days with no results and then a second stay for 6 days. Is it because you had blood showing that they readdressed the C Diff? Thanks for posting....

Wow Cindy, you are becoming a world renound lap band speaker! Okay, so it is 'only' Keene!! Still, how much are they paying you? You could make this your life mission and become a millionaire....
Okay, so I am just dreaming.
Glad they figured it out. I guess you can't really blame the guy at DHC if it was a false negative. Thank goodness they rechecked it! UGH!
