2 meetings with the surgeon?

Hey guys, I've been reading about folks needing to meet with the the surgeon twice, and that at the second meeting it is mandatory for your spose to be there.  Is this just certain surgeons that require this?  I am working my way toward qualifying to meet with Connie Campbell and am wondering if she will have the same requirement.  DH is very supportive, and will absolutely be there for surgery and taking care of me after.  But, his job has him away from home for weeks at a time and I'm concerned about the diffficulty of his being here for a consult appointment.  (PS- He is very familiar with the procedure, his ex had by-pass surgery about ten years ago.)

I think it's a surgeon's preference.  Dr. Campbell was trained by Dr. Shikora at Tufts.  I had my surgery at Tufts (Dr. Kim, not Dr. Shikora), and Dr. Kim did not require my DH to be there.  Good thing cuz his work would have made it difficult too.

My surgeon didn't require my husband to be there, but she did say that she prefers to meet the family ahead of time, to answer any questions and make sure that they are going to be supoprtive.  I lucked out and had an appointment scheduled on a day when my husband happened to be able to go to the appointment with me.

I had my bypass with Dr. Campbell in April.  I only met with her once before the surgery, that was when I was had everything done and was ready to schedule the surgery.  Husband didn't have to be there.  Mine also is super supportive, but because of work etc he only went to one of the Pre-op support group meetings with me and he was there for the surgery.  Good Luck

Thanks for all your input guys!  I'm working my way through Lifestyle classes and appointments.  If I can have my sleep study completed (initial consult is this Tues) I will be ready to meet with the surgeon after my appointment with Dr Finnochiaro on Sept 25th.  Keeping my fingers crossed that I don't run into any glitches.  Trying to schedule DH with me at an appointment could definitely be a glitch.  Doesn't sound like it will be a problem after all.

Dr. Gens was adament about my hubby attending the second meeting.  He wanted to get to know him, and talk to him about what I was going through, and what I would be going through.  I think it is just a specific doctor preferance.  I would just ask your surgeon, and explain the situation.
