Ideas on how to move?

Morning Folks, I am looking for some support. I am going to try a little bit more then walking and need ideas. I can't run, never gonna happen :-) I can walk, but what else can I do? I FEEL that anything else is impossible, though I think I am being hard on myself.  I am trying really hard not to give up or sabotage myself, so I'm posting instead!

I don't know what your physical limitations might be, but perhaps you can try to add more day to day movement into your routine.  Things like parking farther in the back at the grocery store instead of in the front so you'll walk more. Taking stairs instead of elevators, even for a few of the floors if not all of them.  And by the way, don't dismiss walking as "just walking."  Personally, I hate running and never do it.  By the way, walking is a weight bearing exercise that helps promote bone density in the lower extremitites, has cardio benefits, and is a natural mood elevator.    Instead of feeling limited, by walking perhaps you can add a bit to the distance you walk, inceasing the distance weekly.  Sounds like you are being WAY to hard on yourself.  You might find that if you take the time to make yourself go for a walk everyday (somedays you HAVE to make yourself do it) you might just find your outlook improving a bit.  Like I said in an earlier post, it all starts with deciding that you really want to do it.  ~Donna

Hi Jennifer, I'm new to this process also - I started CMC's program a couple months ago.  Which program are you doing?  In fact, I learned about this board from someone in the lifestylechanges course I'm taking now. Do you have an alternative you can do instead of walking -- access to a gym or exercise dvd/tapes? I do a lot of walking and found having an ipod with upbeat music makes a world of difference.   Join in the discussions on the main boards (lapband or rny) - there's a lot of motivation out there from all the successful people. Good luck in your journey, Serenity

Hi Serenity, I'm new to all of this, just getting started really. (About 2 months ago). I am not doing any program yet. I have an upcoming appointment with my PCP and we will see what happens next. Hopefully my PCP will agree that WLS is the next step. I do have some dvd's. Actually thinking about getting Richard Simmons sweating to the oldies which is coming out of dvd. I work 2nd shift part time (30 hours) and it's hard to get in time to exercise when my morning is spent cleaning and errands. Someone did suggest parking further away and taking stairs. what is the rny board? I just started posting in the lapband board, or at least I am trying to. Jennifer

Hi Jennifer!  I swear by the Walk Away the Pounds DVD's.  I started them pre op.  They have a 1,2,3,& 4 mile dvd.  I started with the one mile.  I did as much as I could until I could do the 1 mile comfortably.  THen moved on and gradually worked up to the 4 mile dvd.  Just do them at your own pace.  They are easy moves too, not dancing stuff.  Great way to work your way into an exercise program.
