Why is this so hard this time?  It's not for lack of motivation or trying for gawd sakes!  I am having the WORST time trying to lose the 12 lbs!  I don't want to resort to trying fad things like south beach or whatnot, but I workout 3x a week and walk at least another 2x.  There is room for inprovenment in some areas, but I am doing what the NUT said  - less than 9 grams sugar etc.  Maybe I should just eat salad. I also had my preop testing last week and drank a crap pile of barium before I weighed in which probably didn't help.  I am getting SO FRUSTRATED.  Because until I get closer, I can't make an appt with Dr. P.  Of course the more frustrated and angry I get the harder it is to work out because I am flaring and in pain.  Trying not to give in to eat eat eat even though I want to. Ant tips for losing the 10%?   At this point I am getting desperate.  I weigh in in another 2 weeks - hopefully I will make better progess.

I did the low carb protein shakes for breakfast and Lunch.... I know it sounds yuck but it worked.  Just do what you have to do to get that weight off!!  Its all worth it in the end. Good luck, Kate

I went through the same thing last summer. I was exercising and eating healthy but the weight just didn't come off. In my case, I just wasn't ready mentally.

I read a few more books, and finally something clicked and the weight came off. It's very frustrating though.

Hang in there. It will come off eventually!

Hi, I had to lose 15 lbs before getting to see my surgeon. What I did was eat like I would after surgery. I ate my protein first, say 1 chicken breast, if I was still hungry, I ate my veggies, if I was still hungry after that I would eat my carb. I also set a timer for 20 minutes, this was to teach me to eat slower (I have always been a fast eater) if the alarm went off and food was still on my plate I walked away, I was done. This really worked for me and I had a very balanced diet. I lost my 15 lbs in 4 weeks. Oh I also drank alot of water, 4-6 16.9 bottles of water every day. Good luck with your journey it is a fun ride.....

I have 13 lbs to lose and I believe I may have lost a lb or two this week --. I'm really started to get motivated to do it.

Here's what I'm doing that is helping --

I switched to light bread - one serving (2 slices) is 70 calories instead of 70 cal per slice.

trying to cut out the snacking at work --but still snacking by bringing in a couple boiled eggs and/or cheese.

exercising every day -- Everyday I've been walking with my ipod for at least 30 minutes while my son is playing outside and I also started going to the gym last week (twice) and got onto the eliptical machine and burned some good calories.

lunch is usually a lean cuisine. - less than 300 calories.

dinner - here is a trick that the psych eval person told me about -- use a small plate AND pretend you already have the lapband -- cut your food up really small and chew thoroughly and slowly. If you want more, you can have it, but you still have to cut it up and eat it really slow.

Hope something here works for you. I also posted a thread on the regular lap band forum about preop weight loss and there were several suggestions there about what worked for other people.

I worked in a few Slim-Fasts during the week when I had to lose the weight.  I didn't drink them every day, but once in a while, I would substitute a lunch with a Slim-Fast Ultra.  Also, are you writing every single thing that you eat down?  I've been told that there are studies that prove that we eat 100% more calories than we think we eat, and writing everything down helps to keep that under control.  Good luck.  You sound committed to the process, so it will come off for you.  Have a great day!

I'm having a really hard time losing the weight too. I don't know what it is but I hope something clicks in me too.

What worked for me prior to my surgery was to do the stage 2 liquid diet (yogurts, puddings, jello, protein shakes, etc) 4 days a week and was able to lose 15 pounds in 2 weeks.  *I actually did this for a few days a week each month prior to surgery and ended up losing 30 prior to surgery.

Good luck in your journey!

WOW!  Thank you all for the wonderful ideas and cheerleading.   I will certainly try some of these - eating like I've had the surgery is a great idea too. Thanks, all.
