TJ's Soy Crisps - Now I Know
what everyone on the RNY forum is talking about! Wow! These little things are gooooooood. I went to TJ's this past weekend with a list from EggFace's blog of all the TJ products she uses in her recipes. Ummm, I guess I better explain - Trader Joe's = TJ's and EggFace is a famous RNY forum member who makes up tons of great WLS recipes. And her recipes are just plain good and great for any WLS folks. I don't get to TJs often but I do love it. I can see what all the fuss is about now because the prices for vitamins, and protein were...fab. But TJ's is always a great buy, in my experience. Anyway, they didn't have any of the Olive Oil & Feta soy chips (which forum members assure me are THE BEST) but I got a bag of cheddar and one of BBQ, too. The cheddar went quickly and I had much help from my family to make short work of that bag.
I can see that this product, despite its nutritional value, may be a trigger food for me. The high protein, low carb and low fat won't justify them if I can't portion them responsibly. But, man, it is going to be real tasty figuring that out! Treading
Hi Cindy,
You didn't find Eggface cuz I did a lousy job of the info. Sorry. Here is the webpage
http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/ I did a search on her blog for Trader Joe's and thats how I found the shopping list. I am massively proud to report that I opened the BBQ crisps and shared them and I ate a small portion. My Dog, they were fabulous, So long as I can control the portion, these will be a big player in my post-op life. I can see myself enjoying tiny chicken salad sandwiches made with these soy crisps. I do love that store. Treading
Hi Jenn,
I definitely recommend the soy crisps! Yummy and it is about the same as a serving of beans. 2 g good fats, 15 g carbs, 2 g fiber, and 8 g protein in about 15-18 crisps. I loved the BBQ flavor.
Yes, I've used several of EggFace's recipes and my DH loved them. I'm fairly lucky because my DH is quite happy with anything I cook. He'd be fine if I put SPAM on the table, too, but I have never really cared for processed food unless it is a real time crunch issue. DH does not want to cook and he's always had the smarts and the manners to know the only right thing to say to the person cooking for you is, "Thank you".
I bought a WLS cookbook, Eating Well After WLS. And it is very good. Some of the recipes are a bit more complicated than I like but I free-lance and cut out steps wherever it suits me. I have used low-carb cookbooks for years and my crockpot is my best friend. I actually have 3 pots. LOL.
I cook in order to have healthier and better tasting food and not because I love to cook. So, I expect I'll be using TJ's more because they seem to have some nutritious items that will save me time - what could be better? Treading
