GOT MY DATE!!!!!!
Fantastic!
How wonderful for you. I'm a pre-op so I have no sage wisdom. I am a veteran of big surgeries though so I can give you some general pre-op tips 1) get off all caffeine before June 3rd! 2) keep well hydrated, and 3) try to get good sleep and call your PCP for a Rx of ambien or something if your too anxious to sleep at night. Going into surgery exhausted and dehydrated and coming out of it in caffeine withdrawal will really add to how crummy you feel. It is so easy to prevent these problems and I wish you a great and safe surgery. Well done. Treading
Treadingh20,
Thanks for the info! The caffeine bit is no problem - I don't drink coffee nor sodas. I am trying to figure out if I want to stay down in Portsmouth the night before, - I live 1 1/2 hours away. I know my parents and I are staying the night of the surgery (after I have it done).
Thanks for the tips!
Crystal
Excellent!
I'm behind you in the process, so I don't have any first-hand experience, but I've been keeping a list of some of the less obvious pointers that I've read...
• stock your kitchen with the things you need to eat the first day or two post op so that you don't have to run to the store right away, but not so much that you don't have a reason to go out day 3 or so for a little change of scenery and more walking
• take a small pillow to cushion your seatbelt on the way home
• take slippers that are easy to walk in - they want you up and around ASAP
• take chapstick - for some reason, lots of people complain about dry lips
• if you have them, wear drawstring pants rather than elastic so that you can loosen them more if they fall at an inconvenient spot in relation to your booboos.
• take more than what you think you will need to keep you entertained - you might not be in the mood to read, so have an iPod or a small game for example.
I thought my list was longer than that - I'm afraid that I didn't save all of them. Oh, well. Hopefully there's something in there that will be helpful for you.
