Clegg scores surprise victory on weight-loss insurance coverage bill
CONCORD - Hudson Republican Sen. Robert Clegg scored a surprising victory today with final approval of legislation that compels insurers to cover weight-loss surgery that is medically necessary. The House of Representatives approved the Senate-passed bill (SB 312) by a vote of 209-139. A House committee had overwhelmingly recommended it instead be shelved for the year arguing that it remains a surgery with mixed results. Clegg, a GOP candidate for Congress, lost more than 105 pounds after having the procedure last September. He had to pay out of pocket more than $20,000 after his insurer denied to cover it. Exeter Republican Rep. Lee Quandt argued that insurers had covered the surgery until a few years ago when some plans dropped it to save money. "It is unconscionable that the insurance companies have taken away this procedure in order to increase the bottom line,’’ Quandt said. The bill now goes to Gov. John Lynch who to date has not taken a position on it.Posted on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 - 11:44 AM | Permalink

Me too. I just got off the phone with Monique(today was her birthday) and she is excited too.
You will get to your Dr's goal before you know it.
I am being so spot on for my food intake and I have not lost an ounce, even walking 4 mls a day and nothing. Monique is back to Jennie's for 3 weeks she is also to the letter and working out like crazy and is down .2 we are both pissed and very discouraged. I think I'll be doing mag citrate Friday if it doesn't move soon. I think that is why my weight shot up so fast and it is just not "moving". Oh well the fun life of bariatrics.....
have a good night...
