Question of the day 4/28 (Let's get this board active!)

What are you looking forward to about losing weight?  Or, if you're already at your goal, what is the best thing about having lost the weight? For me, I am looking forward to taking my son to a waterpark without worrying about getting stuck in a tube.  He's almost three, so by the time I lose a hundred pounds, he'll be 5 years old-  a great age to go down a water slide with his mom!

I'm glad you asked this question. I haven't been on here in awhile. I'm looking forward to every small thing normally people would take for granted if they have never had an obesity problem. i.e.. buckling seatbelts easily, airplane seats and not needing an extra belt, amusement park rides, seats,  resturant booths, climbing up our boats ladder without the fear of breaking it off, having more room in the shower, sleeping better, not hurting when excercising so much and shortness of breath, having less pain if I'm on the ground and I need to get up, shopping for clothes and most importantly I'm looking forward to gaining self confidence and self esteem which I'm lacking right now.

I am defintiely with you on the ladder thing-  I don't mind swimming in my inlaws' pool, but I am terrified of breaking the ladder in the pool when I get out of the water.

I'm not at goal yet, but I only have 31 pounds left to lose to be there - WOW, I've never been so close to my goal weight in my entire life!  Anyway, I think that the best part about losing weight, besides being off of most of my meds, is not feeling like I'm the biggest person in the room.  There have been so many Wow moments along the way that it would be impossible to list them all here, but I have always been so self-conscious in the past, so it's really nice to just "blend in" now.

It's funny how sometimes I feel invisible because of my weight, and yet I too have the goal of wanting to blend in!

Hello,     Great thread.  I'm looking forward to all of those things already mentioned.  I long to blend in, too!  But I have a very personal goal as well.  I have a bone degenerative disease and so I have lots of spine and joint issues.  Extra weight really makes it all that much worse.  Losing weight won't cure me and won't mean I'll be pain free.  But I'm looking forward to having the weight down and NOT hearing my docs suggest I try to control my weight anymore.  Just knowing I won't be hearing those gentle admonitions anymore makes my heart sing.  Weird, yes, but you asked!  Oh, and nice clothes that fit well.  LOL Treading

I know what you mean-  just once, I'd like to go to the doctor and have them say something OTHER than "lose weight" and you'll feel better. Sheesh-- when I was an overweight kid in seventh grade, my science teacher even told my parents that I'd do better in school if I lost weight.

Someone at our support group meeting referred to herself as an "armchair mother" because she has to settle for watching her son play, since she isn't healthy enough to get down on the floor and play with him.  Wanting to be able to keep up with your four year old is excellent motivation!

This is weird. I had a conversation with a co - worker today about this very thing. She has never had a weight problem. For me I do not like getting on an elevator if there are people on it when the doors open. I imagine them thinking "oh God what's the weight limit". You know how the elevator dips when someone gets on - yeah I tip toe on. I never told anyone that before today.
