Did everyone have to put down a deposit at PRH? I was only told this yesterday and my surgery date is May 12th.  No problem , as I have the $$$  but what about people who need to save up the 300.00 ? JEN

Hi Jen,     I don't remember hearing anything about this.  I do remember and made note that the psych eval and classes were out-of-pocket.  But not any deposit.  Deposit on what?  Are you self-pay?  Treading

I don't remember doing a deposit either.  Maybe a new policy, or something about your insurance?

Hi Jen,     Curious altogether.  I paid Dr. W in full as well.  Any billd will be a quick matter to resolve, I hope.   The $300 deposit is troublesome.  How does one get insurance to cover this?  I'll be asking Nancy for details and soon.  Thanks for the heads up.  Treading

I'm curious too-  I haven't been told anything about a deposit.  I'm waiting to hear back for insurance approval and then a surgery date.  (The deposit is no big deal-  I know I'll have to pay at least that much with my insurance.)

Hi...I have BC/BS HMO New England; I was required to give a $250 co-pay prior to surgery and a couple of weeks after surgery, I received a bill for the balance of $389.75!  Ugh...thank god for my medical reimbursement account!  The surgery was worth every penny!

Yes- thank goodness for the flex spending health accounts!!   Did you know ahead of time whatthe payment would be?  I seem to recall reading in our insurance paperwork that I will have to pay a $100 copay to each surgeon (and I assume $100 for the anesthesiologist,)  and then $100 per day in the hospital (but I am having lapband, so hopefully it will just be one day.)

Hi All,

Just wanted to quickly let everyone know that I've been advised by the Portsmouth/Parkland program that this indeed has everything to do with your insurance coverage: most likely related to deductibles and co-pay amounts.  Some insurers require these to be paid upfront.  You are hearing about it through the hospital because that's how the info is being routed -- but please be proactive and ask your insurance company and feel free to bring up this topic with Nancy as well as she can help steer you in the right direction about who to talk to moving forward.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Grant Sanborn
