Hi all, I'm Ann from the Manchester area - I've started looking into lapband surgery and I have a first appointment at CMC Monday morning - so I'm getting started! I haven't yet had my physical from my PCP yet -- that's not till June, but they set up my appointments anyway so we can get started. What goes on at this first appointment? Ann

Hi Ann,     Welcome to the forum!  I'm not with CMC so I don't know anything you don't (assuming you've gotten your packet and filled it out and that's why you have a clinic visit).  Looks to me like it is an initial assessment.  My first visit with the PRH program went over my basic medical history and current medical status, current eating patterns, past 'diets' and so on.  I learned about the types of surgery offered and was asked if I had preferences as to surgeon or surgery type.  Nancy then mapped out next steps and I was out the door with many more apts to keep with the NUT, the psych, and so on.  Hope this helps - Treading

Hi Ann!  I'm also looking at having Connie Campbell do surgery for me (most likely lap-band, but I'm willing to consider by-pass if they feel it may be more appropriate).  My PCP was supposed to fax his referral to the OTC by the end of the day yesterday.  I'll double check on that Monday to be sure it was received.  I haven't had my physical yet either, I have bloodwork in May and it made more sense to have that done first.  I'll be interested to hear what goes on at that first meeting myself.  Hopefully, I will be following along behind you before very long!  Good luck! ~Donna

Thanks Donna and Treading It's definitely the beginning of a new journey.  But it's one I need to take -- so that I will get healthier and be more able to keep up with my son as he grows older! Ann

Hi Donna,

I just read that you have your first appointment on May 20th -- who is your appt with? Today I met with Andrea -- she's a PA - and we went over medical history, took my height and weight, blood pressure - set up what I need to do.  I'm heavily leaning toward lapband, so I need to lose 12 lbs (5%) before surgery.  (It's 8% if gastric)
We set up another appointment with Dr Finnachiaro (sp?) on June 19th - same day as my physical with my pcp, what labs I need to get.  I have to call someone back tomorrow to set up an appt for an EKG.  I have to attend at least 2 support group meetings - next one is May 12th if your interested.

Surgery - 3-6 months away!

Hi Ann! My first appointment is with the PA, they didn't say what her name is, might be Andrea (is there more than one at the OTC?)  Currently Connie Campbell is the only surgeon doing the bariatric surgery at CMC, so it will be her.  That suits me fine, I've met her professionally and liked her. I have been leaning toward  lapband, but am also open to RNY.  In addition to my appointment with the PA on May 20th I have labs my PCP on May 21, meet with the dietitian on June 3rd, and a physical with my PCP on June 4th. ( I also found out my PCP is moving to Canada and so will be leaving his practice in July!  Yikes!)  I've already marked my calendar for the support group meetings on May 12th and June 9th.  Hopefully I'll see you there!  It's so exciting to have things starting to move forward! ~Donna
