one step at a time
Okay, I'm psyched! I saw my PCP today and we chatted about why I wanted a referral to the Obesity Treatment Center and all the methods I've tried to lose with. He totally got the idea and had no problem with writing me a referral. He completely agreed with me that if I don't get my weight under control I will be looking at Type 2 Diabetes in 5-10 years and he agreed that if I'm going to do WLS that tnow is the time to do it! Yayyyy!!! I probably sound silly to some of you but I get a lot of, "you're not really that big," comments. I was worried I'd get that from him, too. But, he was cool with it. Interestingly enough, the medical assistant who did my B/P commented that I "was't really that heavy." I've got a BMI of 36 so I am NOT a small person. I pulled out a picture of me from 2001 when my BMI was about 40 and I looked much different. I told her that I did not want to go back to being that heavy and that was why I needed to do something about it now. She was rather taken aback by my picture. Then she understood.
I'm one step closer to where I want to be and I'm smiling! :)
Donna,
You have taken the first step to the rest of your life. Congratulations!!! It can be a long and stressful process getting to surgery. Stick with it and you won't regret it.
I am almost 7 months out from surgery and I've lost 129 lbs. I couldn't be more amazed or excited. You will be too!!!
Keep it up and good luck.
Wendy

Congrats, Donna. Having a supportive PCP is key. In fact, when I was at a recent gathering of post-ops they told me if my PCP wasn't on board to get a new one ASAP. And some docs aren't on board. I learned that yesterday at my cardio. He took the time to assure me that a good diet was all I needed and maybe some exercise, too. Luckily, his opinion is just that - an opinion. I thanked him and I'm moving on. But my PCP is hugely supportive and her opinion is the one that matters. So, congrats and best of luck along the way. Treading
