On to my required appts
So I had my appointment with Nancy yesterday and that went well - I am having a hard time trying to decide on what surgery to have. I want the lap band for all the good things it does, but I don't trust myself enough with my sweets addiction. Sad, I know. If I got the RNY, it would literally make me not eat sweets since my body would likely not tolerate it. Everything else but the issue with the sweets sound great for the lap band. And the RNY's longer recovery, higher risks and invasiveness sort of turn me off from it, but it may help me the most BECAUSE of those things.
So anyway, I have scheduled my NUT and PT together on the same day and hopefully can get Dr. Wagners appt to that day as well.
Looking forward to it, and now need to buckle down to lose the weight, which is 14 lbs. I think I can do it.
Then how long after you get your required stuff done do you see the surgeon? Do you get all your labs done before that too?
Thanks!
The decision about which surgery to have is one that only you can make. Do the research on both, they are both great tools. Your surgeon will advise you what he/she thinks is the best for you, but ultimately it is your choice. And even if you have RNY not everybody experiences dumping syndrome... so do not choose RNY solely thinking it will solve a problem with sweets. And even those that do dump sometimes no longer have it as they get farther out post op (long term). There is really no telling.
Keep working on losing your 14 lbs. Nancy will progress you through the rest of the program. After you have these next apts and see Nancy again she may send you on for your upper gi, abdominal ultrasound, and chest xray. You will have labs drawn a couple of times during this process.
I saw Nancy for the first time in mid october, and by the time she sent me through all my pre op stuff & I lost the weight (I had to lose 21, lost 34 total before surgery date arrived) I saw Dr. Looser in Mid December, surgery end of January. Most of the time after seeing the dr was waiting for insurance approval, once we had that surgery was 2 weeks away.
It seems like a lot and takes awhile when you are ready to do this. I've had friends who did not have this type of program and believe me they wish they had the support PRH offers us. It's really worth all the hoops you have to jump through to make it happen. Best wishes.
