xpost - New Insurance will cover Lap-Band!

Heya everyone!

I haven't been on in a while because I was starting to drive myself nuts.  I know I need a Lap-Band, but my insurance wouldn't pay for it.  It was like spending all day looking at a puppy but knowing you can't have one of your own.

Simultaneously, my husband was getting his geek certifications up to date so he could look for a new job.  I waited for MONTHS for him to get it all together and find a place that, so far (thank God!) he loves.  Today, he was finally able to sit down with his lovely HR person and found that if we switch to his insurance and I stay in network and do all the things right, not only do they cover it, but I only pay $150 out of pocket!

I've never wished so fervently that I could do cartwheels, because I finally have a reason to cartwheel all over the place!

I should probably have waited until I read up on everything to post this, but DH isn't due home for another hour and I couldn't wait to share my news.  He's bringing home 20 pages worth of "stuff" that I have to read to figure out all their guidelines, and he thinks that I'm going to have to go to a different surgeon than I hoped to, but this is finally something that I can actively pursue.  I'm ready for anything.  If they make me loose 10% of my weight, I'll go to the gym twice a day!  If they say I have to do a 6 month supervised diet, I'll say "BRING IT ON!"  I know that with the help of this tool I'll finally be able to KEEP IT OFF.

Can you tell that I'm excited?!? PS - I also posted this on the main LB site, so sorry if it's a repeat for you...

You'll be post-op before you know it! If your insurance company requires you to have the surgery done at a "Center of Excellence" like mine did, then I recommend you check out Tufts Medical Center in Boston.  Last I knew, there were no centers of excellence in New Hampshire, just Portland, Maine, and Massachusetts.  I love the program at Tufts, and even though I hate driving to Boston, it was worth it for me.  Anyway, just a thought.

Follow-up:  I will be able to go through the Parkland Medical Center / Portsmouth Regional here in NH from what I can tell with this paperwork.  Good news:  many of the pre-surgical meetings, etc. can be done right here in my home town.  Bad news:  the local meeting is booked up and I either need to wait until September, or I'll have to travel to Portsmouth in May.

It doesn't look like I have ANY hoops to jump through for my insurance, so I only have to meet the requirements for the program.  The website isn't very helpful there.  Anyone who's had their surgery at PRH - can you answer a question or two for me?  Other than the normal tests / labs that have to be done for any program, what requirements do they have (like pre-surgery weight loss requirements, for example?)
I forgot one of the most important questions - can fills be done at Parkland?

You will need to lose ten percent of your excess weight.  I haven't had the surgery yet, so I don't know about the fills! It stinks to have to wait until September for the introduction meeting.  I think it would be worth it to make the drive to Portsmouth!  (You'll also have to go to portsmoth to meet with the psychologist as one of the prerequisite things.)

Yeah, I'm going to make the drive to Portsmouth for the meeting.  I don't want to wait until September.
