Got a date, told the family

I figured I owed it to my best friend, sister, and mom & dad to tell them.  Other than that, I'm keeping it to myself.  I don't want any advice from those people - just support.  But I'd be happy to get advice from the looser's bench.   Oddly enough, my big sister is a marathoner who has been skinny her whole life, and she's being so absolutely great about it.  She even voulenteered to show up and take care of my family for awhile.

Lord, give me stregth and when I lack it, patience.

That's great!  Not really odd that your sister would support this.  As an athlete, she knows how important it is to stay in good shape.  Once you pare down a little, maybe you can go for some runs with her!  She'd have to downgrade her pace of course, but you might enjoy it.   Smart of you to keep the news to yourself for a while.  That way, you don't get all the half-baked horror stories.
