I quite caffein before surgery. You can drink coffee if it is decaf. Caffein withdrawls are bad enough without everything else you'll be dealing with post op. I did mine about 3 weeks in advance going 1/2 decaf & 1/2 reg gradually switching to more decaf. I had a few rough days initially but it did get better. Now post op you can drink decaf, but I think I waited until about 6 months post op to do it. Caffein post op sometimes gives people heart palpitations. It does me. I found that out when Dunkin donuts gave me caffinated coffee when I asked for decaf. One sip and I KNEW something wasn't right... slightly down the street my heart started racing. So I had to go back and give them heck. Now I tell them when I order it AND double check when they hand it to me. I actually feel better off the caffein. I drink coffee for the flavor now. Heck at the meetings and post op groups you'll see Lots of us with coffee cups :)
I was told no coffee for six weeks after surgery, which makes sense. When I got to six weeks, I found I wasn't missing it much, and decided I wasn't going to bring it back in my life. It's not good for me, and I don't need it.
