Hi, I'm new to NH and have been researching lap band surgery for about 2 years now.  I'm ready for it.  Now I just need to take the steps towards getting it, starting with getting a rec from a PCP.   Does anyone have any PCP recs?  And info on getting the process started, what to expect, etc would be greatly appreciated.  Sorry if this newbie question is asked all the time.   Thanks! Kim

Hi Kim,     Welcome to NH.  I'm sorry I can't give you a personal rec on  a PCP - I'm too far away.  I do know that the bariatric programs require you to get a referral from your PCP as one of the early steps in their multi-step process.  I do have this suggestion though.  Maybe you could call one or more of the programs and ask if they have dealt with any PCPs with good results?    If this is not kosher or a whacked idea, someone will tell you pretty quick, I bet.  LOL.  It's what I'd do but I'm whacked.  Best of luck - Treading

Can't help with an actual name of a dr for pcp/pcm as I only have military PCM's.  However I would check with your insurance for a list of providers in the area.  Then ask around, look them up online etc.  Then call their office and ask... I'm looking into lapband and am looking for a PCP who is supportive and knowledgable about WLS.  I've had PCM's in the past that were adamantly against any type of WLS and those that just didn't know what to do with a post op patient.  Be very very thorough.  Best wishes.

Go to Ratemds.com - this is a site where patients can post reviews of their doctors!!!  And I encourage everyone to go to this site and enter any doctors you have!!!

Hi Kam, Welcome to NH and the OH boards. I see you are in Hudson. I had my RNY at St. Joseph's Hospital with Dr. Jeff Brown. He is not practicing in Bariatrics now, but he still does our follow ups. My PCP is great and happens to be married to my surgeon, so she is very familar with what you need and what she needs to do for you as far as a referral. Her name is Dr. Lisa Schieb and she is at SNHMC West in Nashua. That is an Adult Internal Medicine group. She is great and really listens to all you have to say. She was not my PCP when i had my surgery but I changed to her when I was about 2 yrs out. If you PM me i will give you her phone number if you want it. Good luck on your journey, it is so worth it.

Hi Kim, I'm from Nashua. My PCP is Dr. Keeyes from Dartmouth Hitch**** Clinic. I have been going to her for years. I'm starting this process again, this is my 4th time, but this time i have my own business so i am purchasing my own insurance that includes this surgery if medically neccessay to start April 1. Anyway i just signed up at Lowell General to go through there program. Here's the website. I will be starting April 1 and you need to go through the program which last around 2 to 3 months long. They said i could be having my surgery by this summer. Anyway take a look at there website for Lowell General and call Dartmouth Hitch**** all the doctors for all specialties are in one place. I have to get 6 referals to see the doctor and 6 referals to see the dietician.  http://www.lowellgeneral.org/go/services-and-specialties/cen ter-for-weight-management-and-bariatric-surgery Good Luck!!!
