Hello everyone,

I’m from Maine and I’m looking to get RNY. Any recommendations for bariatric centers or surgeons I could contact? I’m looking for a program or surgeon that does not have a long wait list or does not require a pre screen program because I have already been through one. Thanks.

Hello and Welcome,     I'm sorry I can't answer your specific questions.  I'm very much a newbie.  But I've been researching 3 bariatric programs the last few months (Dartmouth-Hitch**** and Catholic Medical Center both in Manchester, and the Portsmouth Regional Program).  In early Jan the D-H program said their surgeon was booking 6-8 wks out.  I didn't hear anything so specific of the other programs so I can't make a comparison.  I should think any of them would have you go through their application process and make adjustments for what you've already had done or completed.      But these 3 outfits sure do have a pre-screen program in place.  I don't know if their are other surgeons in NH who do bariatric surgery without a program but I'd think a search on the ASBS website would find her or him.      Do you mind if I ask why you've chosen an RNY?  Treading

If you are close to Portsmouth their program is wonderful.  Drs Looser, Gens, and Paciulli are just fantastic.  They are very thorough and experienced in both RNY and lapband.  They will put you through a prescreening program and you will have to lose 10% of your excess body weight before you can have surgery.  There are no exceptions to that.  Best wishes.

Hi Kim, I don't know where in Maine you are from. I had my surgery at Portsmouth Regional Hospital. I will give you the Bariatric Cordinator's name and email. Maybe she can help you.  [email protected]  They have a support group meeting coming up Monday night Jan. 28th. You can also check out their website.  http://www.portsmouthhospital.com/CustomPage.asp?guidCustomC ontentID={D3D28BFB-4FD8-45C3-A96A-2074E862DA4E} I hope I did this right. If not just go to www.portsmouthhospital.com and look around.   Good Luck, Roxanne

Hi Kimberly,  I am just "lurking" on the N.H.  board for the first time and I live in Maine. May I ask why you have decided to go out of state for RNY? If I may, I'd like to also recommend Dr. Loggins who does bariatric surgeries at CMMC. A dear friend of mine had hers done there and several other folks I've come to know through the OH website and I hear he's fantastic. My friend has done very well and I haven't heard a negative comment yet re: that program! Anyway, which ever surgery you choose, whomever does it, I wish you the very best as you journey toward a healthier happier you! Lori
