Hi Jen.  You will be weighed in and told what your 10% mandatory loss will be.  She will go over your application with you & your medical history etc.  Then you will talk about the two procedures which you are interested in... you can ask any questions you have.  Then you will get your "referral" to see Jackie the nutritionist, physical therapy evaluation, and Dr. Wagner for your psych eval.  Then Nancy will tell you when to return for your next visit with her.  She sends you through all your testing et****il you lose your 10% and can see the surgeon. It usually takes a week or two after they get it to call.  If you do not hear from them by two weeks call and check in.  My application originally got stuck to somebody else's.  If I hadn't called them who knows how long it might have taken them to realize it!  Heck I could still be waiting to hear from them LOL.

Hi Jen,     Good for you -you're on your way.  I'm a slow poke so you'll be way ahead of me, I think.  I called the PRH program today to clarify a point you may be able to help me with?  I thought I heard Nancy tell us that we could go to the office (? where that is) to weigh in anytime.  I called because I want to make the drive there on MLK Day (assuming they are open) just to get a starting weight recorded.  That way I can be working on my 10% loss even while I await my application process.  But I might have gotten this all wrong and Nancy will straighten me out.     Sounds like you are determined and decided.  Even more, you're excited.  That's super.  I am sure I will use PRH even though I'm not sure I'm going to have WLS!  But I am going to start the process, keep an open mind, and see what happens.      Isn't it wonderful to have supportive folks from NH - I am so glad to find folks here with good recommendations for WLs and all of the NH programs.  Well, here's to you and here's to a great WLS adventure.  Treading

Susan, YES             Nancy did say we can come in and get weighed right away!! That is my plan to do also.              Now is it 10% of our weight              OR  10% of what we want to lose?

Hi,     It is 10% of your excess body weight.  I'm sure on that point.  Thank goodness.  Treading

So if I would like to lose 110 lbs, it would be 11 lbs. I need to lose? What if you lose more and it changes your BMI to under 40?

Hi Jen,     I believe you're correct and 11 lbs would be required for a person with 110lbs of excess body wt (that excess wt is taken from those 'ideal' body wt charts, I think).      Others may need to correct me but I think the BMI that is used by the program comes from your starting wt.  That is the bmi that goes to your insurance for approval of the surgery.  From there, you have a time limit on that approval (6 months or a year, I've read) and so your weight loss isn't a factor so far as they are concerned beyond that initial BMI.      Part of my call to Anthem BCBS about my benefits and WLS will be to learn how long my approval is good for.  I don't want to get approved too soon and find out I have to have the surgery within 6 months when I might need more time to get work coverage and so on.  So many things to consider.  Treading
