Just saying hi and what not and introducing myself. My name is Matt but I go by Monty.  I am 27, born and raised in Portsmouth NH, PHS class of 98. Here are my weight stat (that I need to put in a signature but haven't yet). 469 (heaviest) 444 (1st weigh in / consultation) 405 (pre surgery) 380 (as of 12/28/07) Going for my one month follow up tomorrow so it's been 2 weeks since last weigh in.  I am excited to see what has went away in 2 weeks. A little about myself.  I like video games (Xbox 360, Wii), movies (mostly comedy, horror, odd stuff), bowling, mini golf, climbing the rocks at the beach, snowtubing, mountainbiking (once I get small enough, I miss doing it!), etc... My fiance is getting the surgery done as well this spring and will also be going with Dr. Gens because he was an awesome doctor to me and she was diggin his personality as was I.  I think it's a big help for my support person to be going thru the surgery as well.  Had a few tough times while on the liquid diet with wanting to actually EAT somthing but she kept me level headed and on track as I will do for her. Also, my myspace profile is myspace.com/xnmex but I don't add just everyone.  Feel free to check it out, but don't be offended if I don't add you.  A friend count is not a high score to me so if you get to know me first, cool. I think that is more than enough for now.  -Monty

Howdy Monty,     Pleased to meet you (and hello to all)!  One month tomorrow, eh?  Good for you and it's nice to hear you're doing well post-op.  I'm sure it is a big plus to have a DG (or is it DF) who understands obesity and WLS.  That's great.   I'm over here in the western part of the state but considering PRH and the same docs as you have already.  But I'm still a newbie and I haven't made any firm decisions as yet.

SweetPea asked my question:  did you have RNY or the band?  And I wonder what factors weighed into your decision-making?  If you'd care to share, that is.  Well, It's nice to chat and I hope you contimue to heal and grow stronger.  Treading

My pains are finally going away it seems.  After surgery you REALLY start to realize how much you use your stomach muscles that they cut through.  One spot was bugging me the whole tame and thankfully it is finally going away.  My muscles still seem a little stiff but everything seems like it is getting better with time. I had the RNY...  I was considering the lap band for the longest time with the shorter surgery / recovery time.  EVERYONE I had talked to stated either would be fine for me since I am not prone to eating sweets very much.  Until I met with Dr. Gens...  He was the FIRST person that would give me there own opinion on which surgery I should have.  It seemed like everyone else wanted it to be  MY choice, but I was looking for PROFESIONAL opinions as I am deffinetly not a profesional. What it came down to is Dr. Gens recomended the RNY over the band due to my BMI which was 60 when I started dieting for the surgery.  He stated that sometimes the band does not work so well for people with a high BMI and he has even heard of instances where people with a high BMI that got the band, get RNY years later due to the band not working for them.

Hi there & welcome to the NH board.  Congrats on your surgery.  That first month or so is the most difficult but it gets better every day :)  It is so worth it.  I had Dr. Looser w/ Dr. G assisting.  He is a hoot.  Maybe see you at the post op group if you go.
