Very Excited!
Hello NH!
I received my Anthem BCBS ID cards in the mail today and my copy of WLS for Dummies. I am so pleased to learn that my coverage includes both the band and bypass. I am not decided but I like having options. So many posts have praised the Dummies book to the heavens so I will enjoy reading it, I think.
I also stopped on the way home from work to buy a notebook and binder and note pads. These are going to be for my WLS research. I am ready to get serious about this. And I am finally, slowly beginning to feel a bit excited and hopeful about WLS. I know my docs are sure I will benefit and that the benefits outweigh the risks. But I need to want to do this for reasons beyond just medical risk management. For sure, this has to become my choice-my decision and not my docs decision.
Today and for the first time that doesn't seem so impossible. Take good care - Treading
Hi Treading!! I remember how excited I was at the beginning of my journey. I'm going on 2 years out (in April) and feel great. Wish I had done it sooner.
I don't often come to the boards anymore, but I saw your response to a post below about choosing a program. I just wanted to offer that I had Dr. Campbell at CMC and was very happy with my care and the CMC facilities. I had started a program in Nashua (at SNHMC) and it folded prior to my surgery so I transferred to CMC.
Good luck on your journey and if you have any questions I'm happy to answer any that I can.

Pleased to Meet You, Bonnie! Thanks so much for the reply. And I'm so glad to know you're doing well 2 yrs out and can recommend the CMC program and Dr. C. That's very good to hear. I am pretty slow in making decisions and major decisions are real work for me. LOL -life sometimes doesn't give me the years I'd prefer to take. But the more choices and the more information I have, the happier I am. Can I ask if you're happy that you had an RNY procedure? Again, so pleased to meet you. Treading
Yes - I am happy I had the RNY as opposed to lap band.....although I first thought of having the lap band because it seemed less intrusive. But as I did research I found that post op the lap band seemed (to me) to be much more work - going for incremental fills, etc. and I thought that the results were somewhat less than the RNY. Of course, that is only my opinion for what it is worth. I know that many who have had the lap band are thrilled with their progress and their choice. I think it is all in what you know about yourself and what you want for results vs. effort.
The DS (duodenal switch) was also an option I looked into but there doesn't seem to be anyone in NH who does this procedure. I think it is a more difficult surgery which is perhaps why you don't find it in NH but probably would in MA.
You are right to do all your research as this is a major decision that will affect the rest of your life and you need to be able to live with and be happy with your choice. Again, best of luck to you!!
Warm regards!
Bonnie
Hey Cindy!
How are you? I do hope your holidays went well. I've been keeping myself busy and doing the research thing with my new WLS books. That Dummies book is very good-btw.
Rotten luck, I won't be there on the 11th. Must visit a family member in hospital in MA that evening. I'm not terribly upset to miss the meeting cuz I can attend others but it was fun thinking of seeing you speak. Good luck but I doubt you need it. Have fun.
Have things settled down after that last fill or did you get an unfill - eventually? Take care -Treading
