lapband
hi, new to this site, I have my surgery date for the LapBand(Jan 14), wondering if anyone on this site can give me a litte info on what to expect after surgery. Was suppose to have a post surgery LapBand person at the last support meeting but it snowed so I did not get a chance to hear from them on what to expect. I have about 100 pounds to lose. I am excited about this but I am a lot scared too. Afraid of some of the things that the dr tells you can happen. plus my surgeon was not that excited about doing the LapBand would rather do the bypass. More scared of that. I would appreciate any info good or bad. Thank you
Hi!
You should check out the lap band forum - I live over there! Lots of great information and anything you ever wanted to know.
Lap band is definately a tool, and you will need to make a complete lifestyle change with it. You will still be able to cheat so you need to make sure you have the willpower to keep yourself from doing it! The biggest thing for me has been that it keeps me from eating fast.... when I eat fast I get really bad chest pain.
This tool will work if you use it as just that. I've lost 60 lbs since surgery (90 total) so if you really work with the tool you should be able to take off that 100 lbs.
Thank you with your help. Did you get the LapBand or the bypass. I see how much weight you have lost and congrats on that. I am afraid of those moments when I forget about the LapBand and eat to fast or forget to chew, chew, chew. I can't wait to just get it done and move on to my next phase in life with a lot less of me. I will check out that forum. Thanks again for your help.

Both surgeries are effective tools... they depend on you to work them.
They both have their pros and cons. Do your research on what you think will be best for you and your lifestyle. What limitations will/won't work for YOU. Everybody is different and what works for one won't necessarily be right for another. But you should also take into account your drs suggestion. Though ultimately it is YOUR choice. I can tell that I love my RNY... though i have many friends that love their band just as well! Good luck with your decision!
Thank you for your help. I had thought that I had made up my mind on the surgery. I still think that I have made the right decision. My dr was the one that made me question that. I already have my surgery date and I think that I have made up my mind. It is a little scary to think of all the changes that I will have to make, some I can do now but most will be a learning process once the band is in. I just hope that I am a quick study. Again thanks for your help.
